I don't see it. From Christians or anyone else. At least in America. There are no "persecutions" here.

I do see a lot of baseless charges levied against Christians.

Did you get up and leave the service that was bothering you so much?

Yep, I sure did.

outlaw said:
Did you inform the pastor of your feelings?
Yes, I did. And I was told that if I didn't want to hear it, I was perfectly welcome to leave.. so I did.

Do you still attend services at this church?
Nope, I don't. It was the first time I'd gone to this church, at the advice of a friend who had formerly gone. Someone who said their Christmas Mass' was excellent and just truely wonderful. All I recieved was 2hrs of how other people should be punished for not celebrating Christmas as a christian and ONLY a christian holiday etc. If THAT is what being a Christian is, then you can count me out. Personally I don't think God would condone such malicious, spiteful, hurtful behavior against others. But, hey I've been proven wrong lately on matters of MY personal faith so what's another notch on the bedpost hrm?

Anyone can be a Christian. The question is will they lead a life reflecting Christian teachings or not?

Heck, there are some that argue Christian teaching leads one to be a bigot. Its all in how you spin it.

My question is this. Are you really a loving Christian when you demonize people this way? WDJD? I'm of the understanding that Christ would never have taken the stance I've seen so many called Christians take. Let me know what you think.
I think you are absolutely right. Thank God Jesus loves the biggot. But He certainly hates biggotry.

I wouldnt think so but i have met those that are bigotted and say they are christian and are very adamant about it. Its not just about skin color or nationality or sexual preferances but also about culture and personal problems.

Case n point: I am a recovering alcoholic (when I was drinking, I was a "functioning alcoholic") but when I attended a church service at the request of my kids, the asst pastor when we met commented that he heard that I was once "a drunk" and as far as I attending his church, the answer he gave in front of my kids was "there are other churches for your kind". I have been also told "your type are nothing but trouble and this is a good church". I wont repeat what I said to the preacher but it was suggested that he could have intimate relations with himself. Bigotry covers a wide spectrum. I read enough of it in these forums. sometimes I log on with a bowl of popcorn to watch the fun and games just on this site alone - cheaper than renting a movie.

and some folks wonder why I have a very jaundiced view on the alleged so-called love of God as demonstrated thru His alleged so-called chosen; you know the verse that sais, "My people, which are called by My name... unless your not what We want".

1) I applaud you for your efforts in fighting against alchoholism. Many people let their own personal demons consume them, and will not stand up to fight. You have and I applaud you.

2) You made my point. I know bigotry extends beyond skin color and religious beliefs. Unfortunately, human beings being as flawed as we are, tend to see themselves as morally superior to others who may disagree.

3) I'll pray for you, in the hopes that you actually are able to meet a loving Christian, truly worthy and walking the faith that the Lord has set for them. That's why I stated in another thread that Christians are the one's to blame for the increase in the rise against God in the world.

When I read on forums like these some of the things that some more extreme fundamentalist Christians believe I consider becoming an agnostic! If that really what God and Jesus is all about then I want no part in it. I think some Christians have a very perveted idea of Christianity. One has only to see just how many bigoted homosexual threads there are, not only on CF, but on other similar fourms, to realise just how low some Christians have sunk into a mire of hatred!

Well, have you read any of my threads over in the GT forum? That's where I put all my positive information concerning Christmas, for fellow Christians to comment. I actually posted another thread with allot of heroic stories in the GP forum, but that got ripped apart by idealists, so I would have expected the same regardless of the nature or intent of the thread.

Because someone wants to know if a bigot can be a Christian does not mean they ignore the Christians that help those in need. You can discuss one without the other and not ignore the one not being discussed. That's why you have a subject in a thread, to establish a sort of focus of subject matter. If it were a free for all then it would be all over the place and no productive discussion could take place.

So yes, some Christians are bigots. And you're right, some Christians do great things too. But that doesn't mean that there are no bigoted Christians.

why, thank you! That loving comment was so christmas of you!! Since I am part of the "you all", you do know that since the OP was wanting individual opinions I was merely assuming I and others can post our views IAW Freedom of Speach and it NOT be scripted by the folks that want to tell us what to post, be it right before christmas, of course.

You want to post happy happy joy joy, please feel free to exercise your freedom speach since it is right before christmas but you will allow me along with the other "you alls" the same courtesy. I sure gots lot more to mention about my thoughts on christianity but I was going to refrain at this time, seeins how its right before christmas as you so aptly reminded folks (although they do have the right to post what they want - this is a "open to ALL members" section here in case you overlooked that).

as far as alleged since you didnt specify I will asume you meant my post as well as others, you perhaps insinuating that the asst pastor of the Vineyard Church in San Luis Obispo, CA on South Higurera St didnt make that comment to me in front of my 2 kids and ex wife???? thanks for reinforcing my growing dim view of christianity via its wonderful loving and kind members.

have a very merry xmas! I really mean that since its the day before and all.

Actually, I think it is appropriate. Christmas was a time for me to think about hatred and bigorty, and focus on promoting peace among all of our brethren, Christian or not.

And, if you actually read some of the posts, "Voeg", you will actually see that some of us have witnessed that Christians have turned their beliefs around from hatred to tolerance and love of others who they don't approve of or like.

I spent the night before Christmas at my family shelter, hanging with some of my clients and their kids, and the love and peace generated was exceptional, DESPITE the hatred shown them by ex husbands or partners.

Praise Jesus for His love and tolerance, and ability to teach others the Way.

Love in Christ,

Christa....

Christians are sinners so it's not unreasonable that there would be bigots within the church, just as there are drunks, hypocrites, gays, gossippers, etc.

Every one of us has some sin that we're trying to overcome. Mine is hypocrisy. I don't know what you all are struggling with, but if you're honest with yourselves, you know what it is.

The good news is that Jesus came for us sinners and not for the holy folks who've got it all together. The Bible tells us that God has begun a good work in us and is completing it even now, even unto the day of Jesus Christ.

That includes bigots.
