Camcorder anyone?

I'm in search of a camcorder for upcoming kid's stuff. Our old camera died. I don't need anything too fancy. I've been looking at digital DV camcorders. How do I make copies of the DV tapes to my PC's DVD writer? Does the camera usually come with software and firewire/USB cables to make copies on a PC? I could go low tech and buy a VHSc camera and make tapes but I've got to get with the times

Hi,

I have a JVC digital camcorder. It was around $400.00 3 years ago, but now you can get a better one for less than $300.00. I really like it. I think most come with software to transfer the video to your computer and author a DVD. The software mine came with is more than adequate. I really like making DVD's of my videos.

I did not have a firewire port, so I bought a cheap PCI card which came with a firewire cable as well. That cost me less than $20.00.

Thanks EastChief! I bought a Sony last weekend ($359). Come to find out I had DVD burning software on my Windows XP. I made a DVD and all is well. Fun stuff.
