  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am sorry you feel that way BW because I like you and think you are a good person. I am not trying to insult you but you must admit that those you call Arminians, (Though we are not), the fundamentalists especially, have a fundamental different view of God, man, salvation, the Holy Spirit, What the cross meant, and several other doctrines than do the Calvinists.

Maybe you do not think these are foundational doctrines of the faith and they don't matter as far as salvation is concerned and arminians are just as saved as you.

I assume that we agree on all the fundamentals.

And I would never argue that Arminians are unsaved.

there you go again with your dig at Calvinism , I have known Calvinists who felt so strongly in favour of KJO that they left church's over it ....... you cannot tar everyone with the same brush , I too place KJV above all others , does that make me an Arminian ... of course not!

If it's not Millenialism it's KJO ism ......... because every argument you make against Calvinism dies on the branch.

A dig at Calvinism?

The thread is Calvinism refuted. What do you expect, agreement?

on several levels i agree , that makes three.

me neither but that will not stop the strife , as i said before Paul warned us of endless disputes over words ....I tend to believe what i read in English scripture unless scripture shows why that may be a misunderstanding . I think the Arminian interpretation is too predictable , even boring , whereas the Calvinistic understanding still leaves me in awe of God .... the impact is very differnent .

I remember reading John's Gospel after becoming a Calvinist after reading Romans 11 , all of a sudden dozens of mysterious scriptures came to life !

Solo DEo Gloria

Calvinism is merely the Gospel. Nothing more and nothing less.

I'm not as learned as most in these matters, however, it's not that difficult to understand.

Why not? We have a different view of the work of Jesus Christ. Isn't what he did and who he did it for fundamental to the Christian faith?

Calvinism: God on His throne, man bowed in humble adoration.
Just make sure it is the right "god" :)

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of the Age/aiwnoV <165>, this, hath-blinded the minds of the faithless into the no to shine forth to-them the enlightening of the Good-News of the glory of the Christ, who is an image/eikwn <1504> of the God

Of course, but a lot of people are saved in spite of errors.

And so you know, I have never been one to say that Arminianism is just Semi-Pelagianism. Inasmuch as it is an answer to the Augustinianism of Calvin as taught in the Dutch Church, I tend to think of it as a species of Semi-Augustinianism.

Orthodox Arminians believe all the right things about who Christ is and what He has done, they're just confused on who He did it for and why He did it.

Because you didn't choose God.org He chose you and predestined you to be elect. Even if you don't believe it, it's true.

It seems reasonable to expect an argument rather than cheap shots and caricatures.

I have presented arguments BW. Where do you think I have given a cheap shot?

I do not intend to give out cheap shots. If you perceive them that way, I apologize.

The cheap shot charge may not be fair. Recently I have been taking a few myself, but you do seem to have a real difficulty being objective about Calvinism. I have yet to see you offer a summary of it which is fair or considered or even accurate. This is, if intentional, both a cheap shot and a caricature.

My guess is that you don't really know what Calvinism is but you have been told a number of things and prefer these pre-digested nuggets to a real, nuanced and complete understanding.

Well, so called arminians do not believe that. They believe sinners are saved because of the cross. It is the first cause, not pre election. Why isn't that fundamental to the Christian faith?
