  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

if He personally sculpted you to be elect then you have to be pre-programed

Our "sculpting" is a matter of sanctification. His choice of the elect is based in nothing other than His mercy and requires nothing from us.

In the words of Art Azurdia, "God loves to save bad people...in getting me, God wasn't getting anything good."

How do I know if they are the elect? It is God who causes the increase. He knows who are His.. He will call them in His timing. I am just a seed planter.. I cannot drag them and beg them and demand of them to come to know Christ. All I can do is plant the seeds and be a witness to Christ..

Why does he need a seed planter?

Why does the parable teach to "compel" them to come in if they will only come at a predetermined time already chosen by God?

Lu 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel [them] to come in, that my house may be filled.

and your not preprogrammed? Men are slaves to something. Either sin or righteousness..

no I'm not

He already knows what I will do but I certainly am the one doing it(with Him leading the way)

Even my choice of turning my will over to Him is still an action required of me

Satan is actually the one attempting to force his will on us

we must choose to go against our very nature

theres no greater an example of choice then to resist your own born nature

Hammster,

Does your view of elect only , and few at that, put a damper on your personal efforts to get people saved from the Lake of Fire.? Does it motivate you?

The motivation is love for, and obedience to, Christ. From that flows love for others.

And most of my witnessing came pre-Calvinism. The only real difference is instead of Jesus dying for the sins of the whole world, I say that Christ died to save sinners.

this doctrine suggests we had nothing to do with His selection of us

which makes us nothing more then pawns in a game

And what quality in you was inducement for God to choose you? Obviously you believe He chose you because of something within yourself that meant He just HAD to save you.

What was it?

Well now how can you resist your own born nature of the flesh? Do you believe that because you do good things this makes you any less of a sinner? Do not the sinful thoughts and actions come out of you without any prompting from you? You whole nature is a slave to sin.. Sin lives in you. It is not something floating out and about in the air and you catch it like a germ..

I speak as the Holy Spirit leads, and tell him that Christ died and rose again to to save sinners. I share the Gospel with him, as the opportunity arises. It's never the same way twice.

I'm not going to sit here and have you sit in judgment over how I witness and who I witness to. I don't believe in the "notches on the belt" style of evangelism. I believe in being led by the Spirit, and letting my life and actions be a witness, as well as my words. I have witness to many people, some of whom I've never seen again. I trust God to water the seeds I've planted. And I've seen the fruit of some of them.

This whole "how can a Calvinist witness?" sub-thread is ridiculous, and bogus. It's a distraction based on falsehoods, and ignorance.

You don't say that Christ died to save "some" sinners? You must make this distinction unless you believe "sinners" is another term for the "elect".

Don't break your arm, patting yourself on the back for such a "wise choice".

a good heart which I have always had, but chose to ignore for many years

I was actually trying to force myself to be something I'm not

I tried to be evil but I wasn't very good at it...my conscious got in the way big time

I prayed to god one night "I'm really sorry if the Gospel is true but I just can't believe something unless I truly believe its true"(lol)

I was honest with him and he gave me the path to discover him...I was already in the process of discovering him

I became aware of the Spirit long before I realized it was coming from Christ

All the elect are sinners.

There is no necessity to insert the word "some" because the issue is not the extent of the salvation but the condition and destiny the elect have been saved from.

I am motivated by fear of God to preach the Gospel to sinners, all kinds of them, every one of them because wrath is coming.

Who are you to tell me what I "must" do? Why do you attempt to sit in judgment over me? Deny it all you want, everyone here can see that is EXACTLY what you're doing.

There is nothing inconsistent with Calvinist or any other theology in saying that Jesus Christ died and rose again to save sinners.

^_^ How can we go to a man that knows not Christ and preach anything but Christ? Christ is the focal point of the entire scripture.. This is why we preach Christ Crucified and Risen..
