Does CC have a definitive position on OSAS/OSNAS ? Just last night on CSN, Justin Alfred was espousing OSAS to a listener that was unsure of their Salvation.
As far as the church as a whole, I honestly don't know. I only know what the pastor of the particular CC I attend teaches and believes.

God Bless,

Is Calvary Chapel a specific church or denomination?
They are a non-denominational denomination....LOL. I would call CC a denomination because they have churches all over the country and several in other countries also.

God Bless,

Chuck Punk, then how come so much authority is pulled by its founder? And about Lotar's and others' concerns of many of its pastors preaching heresy?

True, no denomination or church is perfect, but IMO, Calvary Chapel has some issues it must face.
I don't know if the founder pulls so much authority. his authority comes from scripture. I mean the bible is the authority! I do think that some of the comments made are based on misunderstanding. Now am I going to bash Catholics NO! But I was born and raised in the catholic church and it was not for me. When I was going to grade school ( Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic school) I remember a time when we went to church and were given a free rosery to have kissed by a statue of mary. Now what's up with that!? When it comes to their level of education to be CC pastors I have no idea, but they teach the bible line on line, verse by verse.

alot of fellowships have problems. I think to fix it we need to work on ourselves and love each other to fix themselves.
I hope this makes sense, if not forgive me brothers and sisters

Pastor Chuck Smith (founder of the Calvary Chapel movement) Has recently finished a book called calvary chapel distinctives and it can be found for free at twft.com It basically gives a run down of what we believe, and may help some of you understand what calvary chapel is all about. I go to CC, Bangor Maine and have to say there is a vaccume in my area and very few churches are bible teaching fellowships. I enjoy our pastor (Ken Graves) and all the other pastors that teach at CC's all over the world. Ive noticed alot of people in this thread picking out certain pastors and criticising them, while I do not agree with everything every pastor says, CC or otherwise when one of them says something i disagree with i simply let it slide or bring it up with the specific pastor himself. CC is definitely a spirit filled charismatic church and is doing a great work for God all over the world right now. Check out that book i mentioned in the begining of this post and visit one that is close to you today :)

In case you dont feel like reading that whole book this is a basic outline :)

We believe worship of God should be spiritual.
THEREFORE: We remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.

We believe worship of God should be inspirational.
THEREFORE: We give a great place to music in our worship.

We believe worship of God should be intelligent.
THEREFORE: Our services are designed with great emphasis upon teaching the Word of God that He might instruct us how He would be worshiped.

We believe worship of God should be fruitful.
THEREFORE: We look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshiping Him.

Doctrinal Statement:

1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and inerrant in the original writings.

2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless blood, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and His personal return in power and glory.

4. We believe that the lost and sinful man must be saved, and that man's only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life.

6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved, they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are unsaved unto the resurrection of damnation.

7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Nestorians- 5th century - It claims St. Thomas as a founder. Nestorius bishop of Constantinople who took exception to a sermon preached by Anastasius where the term Theotokos, or Mother of god, which the Alexandrians applied to the Virgin Mary, and in his sermon preached against it and a controversy ensued. Nestorius upheld Anastasius. Cyril, bishop of Alexandria, called a council and denounced him. As reconciliation between the 2 bishops seemed impossible, the emperor, Theodosius II, assembled a council at Ephesus in 431 and before that council Nesotrius was condemned and sent into exile. This diffused his doctrines throughout the East, and throughout Persia and adjacent countries. They live principally in the plains of Ooroomiah. and Koordistand. Its Episcopal in organization having bishops, priests and deacons and a patriarch. They abhor image worship, and deny auricular confession and the doctrine of purgatory. They hold that no doctrine is essential to salvation which is not found in the Bible. For the scriptures they have the greatest reverence. That doesn't address what they believe theologically and why it is a heresy though.

Nestorianism

A 5th-century Christological heresy, Nestorianism takes its name from Nestorius, bishop of Constantinople (428-31), who argued against the Alexandrian use of the title Theotokos, meaning "God bearer," or "Mother of God," for the Virgin Mary; for Nestorius, Mary was the mother of Christ only in his humanity. Theologians of the Antiochene school emphasized the humanity of Jesus Christ, the Alexandrian his deity. Theodore Of Mopsuestia held that Christ's human nature was complete but was conjoined with the Word by an external union. Nestorius, Theodore's pupil, took up his teacher's position after his death.

Nestorius was condemned by the Council of Ephesus (431), which was convened specifically to settle the dispute. There the Theotokos was officially affirmed and orthodox doctrine on the nature of Jesus Christ clarified: Christ was pronounced true God and true man, as having two distinct natures in one person --a position that was reaffirmed by the Council of Chalcedon (451). Nestorius was deposed as bishop and sent to Antioch, although the debate continues as to whether Nestorius himself was actually a Nestorian and a heretic. A Nestorian church nevertheless survives in the East and has since taught, in opposition to the orthodox doctrine, that there are two persons in the incarnate Christ, human and divine.

It isn't just that particular church that you visited. Here in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, there is another Calvary Baptist Church that some friends of mine go to. Ive visited a few times, and on Fridays there's always some good things going on. But one thing Ive noticed is that they are always talking about us (mankind) as if we were dirt. Unworthy and we must always thank God for his mercyfulness over us, menstrual rags. (Once they did use "menstrual rags" to describe us) And hey, I know were not the perfect ones here, but where's the "God's greatest creation"?

Also, don't ask questions, or you'll be reguarded as a subversive. In some ways, it's kinda cultish.
Calvary Chapel and Calvary Baptist are two different things. :)

I would watch it if I got it. Unfortunately, in my area, you can get Trinity Broadcasting on basic cable (that's where I've seen Laurie), but to get EWTN, you have to pay for digital cable or satellite. I do watch their live feed on the Internet sometimes.

If you have a pretty fast connection, dsl or better, you can catch EWTN here. http://www.ewtn.com/audiovideo/index.asp

I have to watch it through the computer, but have it plugged into tv.
The real player version works best for me. I had to do the RP update, but it's almost flawless playback. I tape a lot of stuff off of it on the VCR. It's fullscreen when played out to the tv.
