Oh my goodness, I remember those pledge breaks - Dr. Who would air on Sunday night at 10:30 p.m. on our local PBS station. Back then, that was a school night for me and I was in middle school. If they did pledge breaks during a Jon Pertwee episode, I would be up past 1:00 a.m. watching (mom and dad are big Who fans and were kind enough to let me stay up).

The only good thing about it was the nifty gifts you could get. Not everyone can say they have a TARDIS Key. :D Saved up my babysitting money for that.

Now, I volunteered to take calls during pledge breaks next Saturday night with some friends. No idea what's showing that night - not Dr. Who since the licensing fee went way up. Funny how the circle comes around.

The Prydonians of Prynceton (the Dr. Who club I belonged to) did all the pledge breaks during Dr. Who for several years. I took my scarf, my porcelain TARDIS bank, etc., to adorn my desk when we did that. We all thought it was fun. But it was on at 5:00 on Saturday afternoon and not 10:00 on a Sunday night.

Our local club was called the CIA - forgot what it stood for and I am not sure if they are still in existence. They would do the pledge breaks during Dr. Who - the leader would be wearing the obligatory scarf as he told us about the cute prizes we could get.

About 20 years ago, there was a convention here, and Janet Fielding was the speaker. I got to meet some of the members and found them way over my head with the technical knowledge. Kind of intimidated me so I didn't join the club. Of course I was only 15 at the time...

I have belonged to several groups including one in New York briefly I don't really have the time now to go to meetings.

When they started showing Dr Who episodes on Satellite TV here then the advert breaks started appearing and it was like every ten minutes. I recorded most of them so I could skip through them when I watched it later. I so love my DVD and video collection.

I have only done one convention. Managed to get Tom Baker's, Colin Baker's and Sylvester Mccoy's autographs as well as a few of the companions and bad guys (Valeyard) and even the side kick from the 8th Doctor movie. It was fun but not organised very well.

Is anyone else anticipating any Dr Who Christmas presents this year?

I'm hoping I get series 2 boxed set. I already have a Dalek Advent calendar ready to go next week.

What is the oddest Dr Who present your ever got?

Me I got a dalek Cake...complete with a button that went "Exterminate" when you pressed it.

Today DH collected the Tardis that FIL has been working on for Joshua, our Who-obsessed 11-year old. It is about 6 feet tall and complete with flashing blue light. It's marvellous except that it takes up rather a large chunk of his bedroom and he can only open one side of his double wardrobe doors. But does that matter? It does not. He has been sitting inside it worshipping it since he got it home.

If I could post a pic of it I would but for now you'll just have to imagine it. And an 11-year old boy sitting inside it .....
