• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok, I have cable and I just did this test also and my results were 97352 Bps and 779 kbps. However, I still don't think my internet browser is as fast as it should be and I would like something faster, I just don't know what would be faster.

OK, That sites weird. Honestyl I'm currently on multiple T3 lines and I'm recording one of the slowest times posted.

If you want acurate speed tests go to www.broadbandreports.com ( it used to be www.dslreports.com ) Run one of the speed tests there. Here's a direct link. http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest?more=1

Just choose USA then a location somewhat close to you.

I got a 8.8 meg download and a 2.1 meg upload. Here's the report, http://www.dslreports.com/speedtests/9089975;2139418;f82063bba1f6c905135655585ccc82eb;2.0;middletown.speedtest.frontiernet.net/1084080821

Here's the test I used. http://middletown.speedtest.frontiernet.net/

My family has cable and it's just for regular use. My dad is saving more money by using cable because when combined with digital cable as a bundle package, it is cheaper than getting DSL.

Not everyone can get DSL. You can only be a certain ditance from the phone's "central office (hub)".

I selected a local company as my provider.
I had asked both the local company, GWI and Verizon the same questions and GWI responded right away. Customer service is so important. I also talked to my mom who wasa already using GWI (still only dialup) and she gave them an A+. They are very proactive.

Agreed, based on my area (Tampa Bay). Of course, for downloading, you also have to look at the site or server or whatnot you're downloading from. If they're on a bad connection, you're not going to get good speeds. DSL is cheaper in my area, and seeing as how I quit my job a few weeks ago, I'm switching to that so I don't have $45 going out of my savings every month. Since my parents already use MSN as part of their computer package agreement, I only have to pay $15 to cover the difference :D .

An example. Downloading a music video from the www.animemusicvideos.org Local dedicated server:

During low/normal usage times:
Roadrunner Cable: 350KB/sec
Verizon DSL: 80KB/sec

During heavy usage times:
Roadrunner: Anywhere from 45KB/sec-189KB/sec
Verizon: I honestly can't remember, but not more than 50kB/sec

DSL is slow and cr*ppy. Seriously. By the way, my results from that "Yourspeed" test:
Throughput (2) 317201 Bps bytes per second
Throughput
10538 kbps
kilobits per second
:D
My connection is extremely fast, and the speed always stays around 3 mpbs. DSL users, the farther from the switch you are, the slower it gets.
I've never had connection issues...it's just wonderful. And DSL coverage is spotty, and Cable in this area is about the same cost and double the speed.
