Rather than a private debate forum... how about a 'by invite only thread' forum? I'd like to be able to discuss and/or study here with others who I agree with on things, trusting their responses not only to be civil, but valuable. But not be confined to a certain "faith" icon forum.

It could be a Christian member begins a thread and invites a few "friends" or other civil-posting members to join in the study/discussion... others may request entry via PM maybe and be invited. Those acting up or getting snarky can be "uninvited" should that occur... All may read and follow along, or make smilie comments.

I love the idea of feeling safe in discussion with civil members!

There are some really wise members here who get shut down in regular threads

People could offer their overall view of a particular issue in a thread, with evidence and so on for their view. Then people can discuss it.

Isn't this something which should be happening in all threads?

I'm a little worried that setting up an invite-only forum could create the appearance of an 'elite' in-group who convene to ponder issues without interruption from the 'deplorables'.

I'm also concerned that valid (and invalid) alternative opinion will be filtered out leaving an echo chamber.

Yes, that’s what I meant, as in rather than exclude other views a person making a thread on a topic they got ‘shot down’ for could offer their evidence up front, and be prepared to consider other opinions/defend their own. It was clear in my head when I posted lol.
