  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Foetuses dead in the womb and foetuses suffering a number of mutations making them non-viable outside the womb.

Actually, often the stance is that it healthier for the mother physically to carry a dead baby to term and let her go into labor naturally. However, psychologically, it is torture to many mothers so they would simply induce labor and deliver it naturally. However, you can't kill something that is already dead so it isn't an abortion. And how is having a living but non-viable baby dangerous to the mother's health. The normal route would be to either let her go into labor naturally or induce labor. After being born, the baby can be assessed to see if it is viable. The parents are often given the chance to love their baby and cuddle he/she until she dies in their arms...or have the doctors attempt to save the baby.

For example:

No abortion is necessary in either of your examples and the mother's health is not at risk. Try again, I guess. I say there is zero reasons for a late term abortion except to kill a baby that is going to inconvenience the parent. This would be no different than intentionally killing a late term preemie who was born.

Children refers to a babe ex utero, while it is in utero it is a foetus .

A fetus is just a referring to the location of the baby. It doesn't make it stop being a baby. It is fully alive and fully human both in and out of the womb. How can the location of the baby make it okay to intentionally kill a baby? What do you call the fetus that is removed from the womb for surgery and then returned to the womb? Now a fetus...oooh, it comes out and now it is a baby....stitch him up and put him back...and now he is a fetus again..

I guess they both are about imaging a better life for everyone.
But it's not as if Pro-Life groups orchestrate adoptions.
"Too much work" I guess.
They do in fact. Where do you get the idea that they don't?

That's the pro-abortion mantra, all right. The fact is that pro-life groups do much to help.

Who do you think operates most of the private adoption services? Mostly, it is the conservative churches/denominations as it long has been.

A Catholic agency has been involved in this for many years (in my state) and offers late term care and adoption services to girls and women who choose to not have an abortion.

As a social justice and political activist, I've witnessed a lot of lip service by many right wing Christians who claim to be pro-life over the years. I have seen these same Christians take little to no action in taking a political stand against abortion or barely any action whatsoever to help poor children and their poverty stricken family in need. Considering my 27 years experience involved in social justice and political activism, I happen to agree with the quote by Sister Jean Chittister in the meme.

Cradle to grave care by the state (taxpayers)?

In my city the debate over how to help our homeless is mired in the controversy of how much money is available for this. It isn't just housing that is needed, but a broad range of social services that the city cannot afford. We have a very liberal mayor and city council but even they see the fiscal problem of providing these services.

The homeless, as a 'demogaphic' are a mess, but they somehow find a way to survive. Which is another reason why our aid is 'measured'. Too much and the city becomes a magnet for the homeless and we wind up like California. Fortunately our cold winters encourage many to head south or west for the winter.
