  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Keep your business clean and healthy. Don't get complacent and start giving up your Christian principles just to avoid confrontation with homosexual bully groups and/or the tyrannical government.

Do not be afraid to ask and be certain that no applicants are perverts who will degrade your environment if hired.

I think that this is the opposite of Christian values; rather, Christian values involves mercy and love of those who are less fortunate as well as a lack of judging those who are sinners.

One of the weak points of modern Christianity is that love is not emphasized, the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is not emphasized... Concepts of grace and agape somehow are overruled by the notion that somoene is gay? I think that is why we have the idea of agape, and that is why Jesus Christ saved adulterers, saved prostitutes.

If you own a completely private, family (or you plus friends) run business, then I think you have the right to discriminate in any you like. It is your business and your property, and you should not be forced to use it in a way you find objectionable. That would include both who you hire as an employee, and who you deal with as a client.

But, if, say, you are running a store, and you are paying rent or morgage on the physical building, that is not your property, and I do not think you have a right to keep people from it based on private feelings. If the bank owns the building, they get to decide who is allowed in, not you. So, that would nix any discrimination of customers.

If you took out a loan to start this business (I'm going to keep assuming a store, because it is easiest to work with) then that business does not belong to you until you have paid back the loan. Once you truly own the business, you may make any decisions about it, based on any criteria you like. But until that loan is paid off, the bank still has a grip on your business, and your primary duty is to be a good steward of the money with which you have been entrusted. That means, if you hire somebody, you hire people who will be responsible, hard-working and honest. If such a person is also gay, that is not your concern. Discriminating against a well-qualified person based on unrelated beliefs is something you may do when it is only your own money and possesions at risk, not somebody elses. So long as you are working on borrowed money, you should put person biases aside and work with whoever will be a good steward.
