We've heard of campaign signs being vandalized, even stolen, but Tuesday morning's incident takes it to a new level.

At some point early Tuesday morning, an unidentified gunman began firing shots into the Knoxville Bush Cheney campaign headquarters.

It's sad to say, but I've had a feeling that this election cycle would foster more violence than before. The rhetoric from both sides is increasing, and neither side is particularly amiable to any sort of compromise or taking responsibility for their role in it.

I won't jump to say this was politically motivated, but if it was it is sad and scary.

If it was politically motivated, the perpetrator is an idiot. This can only generate sympathy for the Bush campaign, and make those opposed to Bush look like violent reactionaries. Both would help the Bush campaign far more than the gunshots would hinder it.

Good to hear no-one was badly injured.
