In my area (Florida), most illegals work for far less than the minimum wage, do not use fake anything (their is no chance of getting caught), and half the time get what little was promised stolen from them.

I also live in Florida and was surprised to read this post, as all the illegals I know have fake identification to get jobs.

I personally work with quite a few building contractors. Their system is to have say one roofer documented as having put on a roof. But all the work is done by illegals, and nobody even asks their names. To actually hire them requires withholding taxes, paying worker's comp and all that mess.

They prefer to just pay them under the table. And generally, after putting in a week's work on a new home, the contractor will walk in, say the work is subpar, and withhold most of the money they promised in order to get the work repaired (which doesn't actually happen).

Maybe my experience is skewed towards a particular industry.
