One of my favorite episodes of Angel is when Connor is suppose to sacrifice an innocent for his and Cordy's baby's birth (which ends up being Jasmine) and Darla comes back to try and talk him out of it. I cannot remember it word for word but my gosh talk about a symbolism of becoming a Christian, choosing good over evil.

I got that, too - brilliant episode.

Does anyone have any favorite "supporting" characters on Buffy and Angel.

I think one of my favs on Buffy would be Anya. I know she choose to be a vengence demon twice, but she was always great for the comic relief aspect. She would say everything everyone was thinking, but everyone else knew it was either too rude or too wrong to say. It always came off humorus to me. I liked Faith also. I liked her better before she went bad, but she was a good character to mix things up a bit.

Angel, I think I would go with Fred. I liked that she was so intelligent. I didn't really notice how good of an actress Amy Eckard was until she became Illyria. My second would be Gunn.

I liked Spike's character on both shows. I liked his ensouled character better than the evil Spike.

My favorite supporting character on Angel was Wesley. How he went from Mr. Comedy to Mr. Tragedy by series' end was a wonderful bit of character development.

On Buffy, my favorite supporting character was Xander. The Heart of the Scoobies. He gave some wonderful speeches, especially in season 7, about how Buffy died twice and she was still standing, and no matter what, her motives could not be questioned, because she would always put herself on the line first... and in that same episode he gets his eye poked out on a mission that Buffy sent them on.

With me:

On Buffy my fave supporting char would have to be... Spike (Big surprise there eh? ;)). There's so many facets to his character that he never seems to be boring. He went from evil, to bad-boy wannabe, to comic relief, to grudging ally, to hero.

On Angel, it'd have to be Wesley. For many of the reasons AngelusSax mentioned. He seemed to be a character that was real, and how he changed was very indicative of the way his character was evolving over time and after what he'd experienced with the AI team.

I have to say though, I like just about all the Buffy and Angel characters, with the exception of Angst-ridden Connor. ;)

My favorite character on Buffy would have to be Spike as Spaceprg said Spike or William as others know him went through many stages of himself. Changing the closer he got to the slayer. I like his character because he was the one who always amused me in every episode he appeared in. In a way he helped Buffy see the world for what it really was, he was like her sturdy wall when everything else fell apart. Not to mention the whole part that he went from wanting everyone to die to turning into a champion. The slayer's champion, and hey who wouldn't want to save the world.

Hmm..I don't have a favorite character on Angel. I really like everyone but if I had to choose I would choose Faith, because she sports attitude.

True enough! I have so much trouble with Connor's character.

My favorite reoccuring character was Darla of course. I love the way her character evolved, and I found her story line always interesting.

I enjoyed Wes evolving also he didn't make it to my favorite list however I always admired the way he was willing to do whatever was required for what he belived in, good or bad.

I also agree about Xander having some really good speeches as AngelusSax pointed out. I sometimes forget some of them until I am actually watching one of the episodes.

My all time fav character on Buffy would be Angel, but that doesn't really count as a supporting character;)

It really is hard to pick favs from the two shows. They characters are so well written and the evolution of them is very interesting. I am disappointed that both shows are off the air, well at least we will alway have DVDs :D

Connor is a character best seen with the knowledge of where he's headed already. It really does, in his case, help to know the end of the story, so that all the angsty-stuff beforehand is viewed through that light. He becomes much more... viewable.

It's like the 6th Sense... it's a whole new series when you know what's coming.

My favorite character for both shows is Spike- hands down. :D I love the episode where he has Willow and Xander hostage- can't remember the ep name but it was while Cordy and Oz was still on BTVS. He's at the Magic Shop w/ Buffy and Angel getting ingredients for the Love Spell and lectures Angel and Buffy on the fact that they still love each other. Awesome speech. I love his parting shot, but I won't quote it completely here- it ends with "...at least I'm man enough to admit it" talking about still being in love with Dru.

His character development is probably the most changed of any of them. From the most extreme bad (Hey, he killed 2 slayers in his evilness) to becoming the hero that saved the world. It was very appropriate, I thought- a vampire with a soul (redeemed to goodness?) using the power of the sun (SON) to kill all the bad vampire army (the army of darkness). Definitely religious connotations there. I cried when he burst into dust.

Then I was pleasantly surprised to see him return to Angel. AWESOME!! Too bad I didn't get to see the whole season. Saving for the DVD's. I've only got a few seasons of BTVS and 2 of Angel.

Great thread, guys!

I did find the one statement that Spike made to Angel, about how Angel had a soul because he was cursed, but how he (Spike) went after his on his own very moving. I tend to vote for Angel over Spike, but that statement really said something. I guess I was used to Angel first before Spike was introduced to the cast.

Does anyone have any episode or cast member they would like to discuss further?

I'd like to hear the thoughts of you all for "Smile Time", aka the puppet episode of Angel. I'll share my thoughts later, the phone beckons.

I thought it was both hysterical and kinda weird..... angel as a puppet was just laugh out loud funny

I missed so much of the conner story line first time around, much like buffy i came into angel in its last season, now watching reruns daily.

On the angel reruns on tnt conner was born a few episodes back.

So now maybe i will get the whole story lol

watching the last season or two not knowing what teh deal was was confusing

Amen to that. Both Buffy and Angel are shows that if you miss a bit, you're left in the dark wondering what in the world just happened. Those are shows that really are suited to DVD. ;)

Smile Time... I only caught a few seconds of that ep, but I have read a transcript of it and seen some pics. When he vamped out in puppet form, he reminded me of the Count on Sesame Street. Hehe...

Agreed. Connor was actually one of my favourite supporting characters on Angel *waits for stone throwing*! He was an interesting foil to Angel and brought out a whole different side to him.

Smile Time was funny, but too light-comedy for my tastes. Angel was best when it was dark.

I dunno though... Myself, I always liked a bit of light-heartedness to break up the darkness. Comic relief you could say. Darkness is really nice though, but too much and it loses its edge in my view.

OK, my thoughts on Smile Time... It really underscored just how much Angel had gone from Champion to (Lindsay McDonald's words from "Your Welcome") Corporate Puppet.

Sure it was funny on the surface, but this comedy had a point to it. Angel was a corporate puppet... and it got personified as he was trying to reclaim his fame as Champion... though he was still working at W&H.

Plus, now I'm very weary of Sesame Street.... lol
