  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I took my son when he was still 12 - the over-the-top "sex" humor was too much & made him (and me) very uncomfortable. There's also some other crude humor & an "F-word" uttered.

Now I am not advocating profanity but do you not think your son at 12 hears the F-word from his school mates?

With any "secular" entertainment, you just have to talk to your kids about it. We discussed the truly cute parts, such as (spoiler) when Bruce divides his tomato soup ala Red Sea! Also, Morgan Freeman as God, gives a very powerful & wonderful message in the end. :)

I think with any entertainment you should talk with your kids about it.

Jim Carrey is hilarious!:D
This is Carrey's best film - awesome acting.
I thought it handled the subject delicately, except for the part when Carrey is yelling at God - just a little too far.
Other than that, the film was actually inspiring, unlike most films today.

why Job yelled at and was very angry with God.

I thought the film quite funny and didn't think it mocked God at all. The funniest part to me was when JC was making the other anchor man do all sorts of crazy stuff on camera. I almost fell out my chair laughing and the Prayer requests via email was pretty funny too.

Very funny movie. Insight disguised as humor in many places. Don't be scared to watch it, especially if you have TVGuardian. The worst thing about it was the sexual humor and the f-word one time, but the overall message made up for it. :)

You confused me for a second. I forgot Jim Carey has the same initials as Jesus Christ and thought you were saying Jesus was doing crazy things to the pompous news anchor.

Something I appreciate about the movie is that although Morgan Freeman portrays God as wanting to be friends with us Freeman portrays God as being a father figure who is willing to give us tough love.

I laughed so bad when he went to the diner and started messing around with his powers....LOL

I LOVED the part at the end when "God" tells Bruce something like "people are always looking up to me when all they have to do is use what I've already given them". What a profound statement...I almost fell out of my chair.

I'm saddened by people who think it's either harmless fun or offensive. It is neither of those. Realise that the man who wrote this and directed it is a Christian, an honest Christian, the real deal from all interviews I've read with him. He realises that he had to portray a secular character and some people would be offended by that. But why are we surprised when the world acts like the world? This is the story of a regular man who thinks he knows better than God, and ends up finding out that he needs to surrender to God's will and stop complaining and start living a life that pleases God. Sure, there's not espousing about Jesus, but there simply *can't* be in a film that intends to appeal to any secular audience. Rather, it's meant to be funny and draw you in but make the average man (and even Christians) think about who God really is. The theme of God not being able to make us love him was wonderful.

This has to be the best mainstream film I've ever seen as far as theology goes. And as someone who wants to be a filmmaker, I'm so pleased that a fellow Christian has been able to do so- making a film that's fun but also gets across a good message in the end.
