  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I took my son when he was still 12 - the over-the-top "sex" humor was too much & made him (and me) very uncomfortable. There's also some other crude humor & an "F-word" uttered.

With any "secular" entertainment, you just have to talk to your kids about it. We discussed the truly cute parts, such as (spoiler) when Bruce divides his tomato soup ala Red Sea! Also, Morgan Freeman as God, gives a very powerful & wonderful message in the end. :)

I was offended, no not by the sex, or swearing but by the idea that all God really cares about are middle and upper middle class americans. Where are the films of yesteryear when it was orphans and churches threatened by big business that got God's help. I think I about threw up when he complains about his apartment (larger than I've ever lived in), job, car etc. For those of us who walk, bike to get groceries, life hand to mouth and actually depend on miracles to get us through (like last week when my account was overdrawn .94 cents and they were threatening debt collectors and a check for $60 that a corporation owed me from 5 years ago came through the mail box). Plus, it missed out the greatest joys of a relationship with God, aka, being with God.

It was a harmless movie. It showed all of Gods worldly powers, and showed that there are alot of people who believe in him and come to him for guidance. We all have been conceited to a degree at some point in our time..so why not complain about his apartment? Jim Carrey and Morgan Freeman are completely awesome in this movie! I had a friend who thought this movie was going to be making fun of God, but after I finally convinced her to see it, she loved it! It's just a movie, why disect it so much?

Nothing I would want to see. I don't like anything that mocks God.

In all honesty, I did not want to see this at first. But, my son likes Jim Carey, and begged me to. We had talk about it & went. I expected it to be really silly - and I am not a big fan of Jim Carey (except for the Truman Show, I think he's annoying at times).

It really does not "mock" God, just because Jim Carey "borrows" His powers. He just does silly stuff like wanting coffee and "Juan Valdez" shows up at his kitchen window. LOL!

In fact, Morgan Freeman as God gives a wonderful performance - things like (slight spoiler) appearing to "Bruce" as a janitor. When Bruce mocks him for it, "God" just laughs and tells him that 'ole fashioned hard work & labor is good for the soul. :) Things like that.....reminded me of George Burns in that role way back when - nothing offensive, just sweet.

Not trying to convince you to see it, (it's not that great or anything) but just clearing up that I'm a Christian and did not think it "mocked" God at all. It mocks humans who think they know it all & whine all the time, if anything.

I don't think this movie mocked God or said God only cares about the well to do. On the other hand it did have sexual content and more importantly the best parts are cut out. If you see this movie see it on dvd so you can watch deleted scenes which make it ten times better.

It's a really good movie.
