Article one on the human right declaration says, IIRC, we ought to treat one another in the spirit of brotherhood. What does this mean exactly?

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm guessing it means we should try to consider the good of others like we consider the good of those close to us. eg: starvation in Africa is just as bad as starvation in your town or city.

Whats wrong with shia iran by the way. I know ask a saudi and they have unorthodox beliefs etc.
But check the shia philosophy culture, its quite expansive.
At a mosque they were actually discussing kantianism, utilitarianismm etc, formally over a week or two. Quite high minded. Never did I see anything like in a church. I know the USA treat them as advesarias, and after lifting one set of sanctions (to do with nuclear armament) theres another load in place the next day...

I like to tread USA as allies, out of patriotism to the uk and respect of their scientific culture. But I just dont get international conflict as times, i am quite pacifistic. Many shia see themselves as non aggressive, they dont have a vilent jihad intended so they say. To do with the tenets of their particular form of Islam.

I think that maybe with so much free pess in the west we can become disorientated, and have an exploitable guilt complex about having national interests and strategic values. Our politicians are scorned by the people who voted for them. Its an institution, Paradoxum being a exception to the rule.

Why not sisterhood. feminintsts might ask..., brother hood might be too aggressive, and take identity reference from tales like cane an abel in the bible etc, where the scene is set for mutual aggression.
In these wars its obama, assad, bin laden, etc, where are there feminine voices?
Id say the most feminine "voice" I know of comes from the Catholic press (eg the "catholic universe" newspaper), because of their emphasis on humanity and care, social responsibility and building trust.
It may be written by men, but its not that "masculine" a stance, if you get the idea of gendered ethics and philosophy.
