We don't mind taking genuine refugees. We just want to be able to control how many we take, make sure they want, and apply for jobs, not live off our benefits system and not come here just for free health care and then go home again.
The problem is that you would not even have Europeans among you who want to work there. You want to foreclose you. And there is freedom to travel in Europe. You think racist (British first), rather than to see you as part of the European Community. You want to take advantage of Europe, but not the disadvantages. But you can not have one without the other!
And another thing: Most refugees who come to Europe, are war and civil war refugees. Few are economic refugees. And no one can accuse them that they want a better life, after Europe has ruined its economy in many countries. Somali fishermen went bankrupt and became pirates because large corporations, is attended by bribery, and often without the right to fish in Somali waters. Agriculture in Nigeria, Sudan and Ivory Coast is by cheap meat from Europe on the ground. And since the Europeans and the British surprised that these people want to join Europe, because nobody else wants?
I think almost all the above has been happening - I understand that there were leaflets written for people telling them how to get free stuff in Britain. To some people, we are a soft touch.
In Europe, we are in solidarity with each other and with others, or should be, at least. That Britain is, like many others, especially Eastern European countries foreclose, one day will avenge bloody. People will not forget and will not forgive! Mark my words when the next attacks by fundamentalists (Christian or Muslim) happened!
We are also only a small island and do not have limitless space.
You call yourselves GREAT, but be a little country? What about Ireland, Scotland, southern England (where I often spend my vacation)? What with the many small islands off the coast of Great Britain, which are partly not, some sparsely inhabited? Germany is less than the UK, but has more refugees to date. may remain Much of our refugees (forever, or for a certain time), a portion will be deported because they do not fulfill the refugee criteria.
