Well, it’s certainly an eye-opener. People really don’t learn, scapegoating, jingoism and appeals to brute ignorance are no less effective now than they were at the beginning of the last century.

I do wonder if on some level people actually do want devious cretins like Farage and Trump in charge, so they can marvel at how loaded they are, doff their caps and pick up the scraps from under the table. The freedom of cultural interchange, learning and movement that the EU offers seems to genuinely frighten a lot of people. Maybe ignorance of the wider world is comforting for some people, the idea of not having to deal with the hassle of different ideas and beliefs.

If single European nations are trees, then the EU is like the common forest. Some people want the trees to be isolated, some want we all share the whole forest because its makes us stronger, diverse, brings unity, peace and prosperity for all.

And in the globalized world, what is one small country like UK or Germany or Poland against 50 states of USA, against Russia, against India, against China? Europe is such a small continent, why to make it even smaller, why to isolate it and have 28 "us" vs "them" instead of one "us".

If some country does not want to be part of the EU, why not - There is Switzerland, there is Norway. But they are outside of the EU with dignity.

UK leaves based on lies, manipulation, nationalism, hysteria and hatred, internaly divided and weak. Its a sad look.

Some bubbles are quite small (for example flat earthism) and some bubbles keep you isolated (like hatred bubbles, nationalism bubbles etc).
