While I don't agree with the stupid ida of boycotting Foot Locker because of a *gasp* rap video with no bad lyrics in the commercial. How can you support a group like 3 Six Mafia because of one little Jesus song surrounded my tons of vulgar ones just doesn't work. A lot of rappers try to do this to make themselves look good but they're just being hypocrites. they think you can act has sinful you want as long as you know Jesus. That's not the way it works. I'm not saying there's something wrong with listening to all secular music. Just realize what the lyics are saying.

Buying from foot locker or any company that hires gangsta rappers and puts money in thier pocket, (hundreds of thousands of dollars) is in effect telling society that the kind of filth that they spew on society is fine and dandy.

What do you think 3 six mafia stands for? And to call me God is blasphemy, I think as a Christian you would have known that. Oh, and to say that they are cool because they thank thier Lord Jesus and pump out the kind of filth that they put out, makes them even more of a danger. If they put out filth like the majority of thier other works and then in thanking Jesus openly then so sap may say to another person, "hey they are O.K. cause they thank Jesus. Do you honestly think that Jesus, our lord and savior would want to be honored in the way that they trick you into thinking that they are honoring Him? Get real dude. Ya know Al Capone did alot for kids but look at his track record. Assuring that kids get fresh milk in thier school lunches doesn't make up for the hundreds of people that he killed. I see your logic now, you can do any vile thing that you want as long as you thank Jesus.

To an extent, yeah you can do any vile thing and still be a christian. Sin is sin, all sin is vile, and yet God can forgive us of all our sins. No matter how big or small the world conceives it to be. Let's not forget about God's mercy and grace.

I wasn't sticking up for Three 6 Mafia to make them look good or anything because yeah, they do have some bad lyrics. I actually gave up all of their CDs awhile ago because of some of their choices BUT I still do give them an occasional listen. It's just they didn't have a bad influence on me but I didn't want to hear all the cussing because they do it a lot in some songs but not every song. I never wanted to go out and kill someone or do bad things because of Three 6 Mafia. It's just I don't feel us as humans can judge other people and there relationship with God. By telling me I can't be a Christian because I listen to 3-6...I think that's totally wrong.

Oh, and shawnhawkins please quit trying to make everyone look bad. No matter what I said you tried to make me look bad. Are you one of those people that can never be wrong and point out all the flaws in others but never look at yourself?

you're going to have to boycott A LOT of compainies to not be hypocritical though. It wouldn't hurt the companies too much anyway though.
You are right-it will not hurt the company (ies) at all. On the other hand, if someone feels that a certain kind of music is wrong (in this case rap) is wrong, then to avoid buying at companies who use that type of music in their ads is NOT wrong.

I feel that if someone feels convicted that using a certain type of music in ads is wrong, it would be more wrong to go ahead and spend their money at those places. That is a personal choice.

I concur with Rich-- as I've said before in the Harry Potter thread, it's when people start bashing each other for not having the same convictions and calling them un-Christian for disagreeing that things get out of hand. Shawn has his convictions, and following them is admirable-- however, calling others unChristian because they don't share those convictions is not.

The only thing that companies fear other than chapter 11 is boycotting Christians. Christians make up the largest majority in the world.

I don’t think shopping at Foot Locker is saying that gangsta rap is okiedokie. I hate the garbage; so I don’t listen to it, much less buy it. I don’t allow it to be played in my home. But to imply that a genre of music somehow has the power to overtake minds and transform people is a bit of a stretch.

I respect your determination to stand by what you believe; however to attack those who disagree with you is overstepping. Like another poster said, I understand the frustration, but certain attitudes are going to put people on the defensive or they will just end up disregarding what you’re trying to say altogether. That accomplishes nothing.

Foot Locker is simply doing what all businesses do—marketing to their demographic.

Personally I think they’re too expensive. I can get many of the very same shoes at Kohl’s for 30%-60% less. But I digress.

While I detest rap, it isn’t responsible for corrupting today’s youth. SIN is. We all have a choice in it. If you want to boycott, that’s cool. Boycotts typically don’t work and often backfire in favor of the targeted company. But by all means do whatever you feel you’re being led to do and I’ll be praying for you.

This is moving a tad off topic, and perhaps we should start a new thread in a music listing, but I am going to disagree here. Much of rap music (and I use the term music questionably) is filled with cursing, sex, drugs, and more cursing. It is the old saying "garbage in, garbage out."

No, rap is not, alone, "responsible for corrupting today's youth." But if one chooses to fill his/her head with this stuff, it can't help but affect the choices one makes.

Ok-on that we agree!

Although I do listen to some of it I don't like the message and don't promote the negative messages I just like the sound. I think it's all about the individual person.

my 2 cents:

I think that we as Christians have bigger fish to fry than to be banning businesses for their use of a certain kind of music in their ads. This is a sick and dying world. We need to be salt and light in this world and to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Instead of worrying about the rap culture...volunteer at a soup kitchen or at a nursing home. Commit a random act of kindness, love your neighbor and your enemy.
BTW..I hate rap music probably for many of the same reasons as you do but boycotting Footlocker is not going to lead anyone to Christ.
God bless,

You make some good points. As I have said in other theads, Christianity is not only a religion, but it is a lifestyle. We should do the things you mention, and those are just for starters. We need to show the Savior's love at every chance we get. And yes, boycotting Footlocker will not lead anyone to Christ.

However, much of the rap culture is, indeed, immersed in drugs, put down of women, cursing, etc. Many feel that supporting companies that use that form of music in their ads in an endorsement (or approval) of that type of music, and therefore those sinful things. Therefore they feel they do not wish to support those companies; and I agree with them. It would be wrong for them to support those companies with their dollars.
