  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Border Patrol Agents Have a Secret Facebook Group, Where Racism and Sexism Prevail
Current and former Border Patrol agents, who are responsible in part for detaining people who enter the US illegally, have displayed shocking callousness toward immigrants and women in a secret Facebook page with roughly 9,500 members.

On Monday, ProPublica revealed the page, highlighting Facebook posts that included slurs toward immigrant groups and sexist comments about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas). The group, called “I’m 10-15,” takes its name from the Border Patrol code for “aliens in custody.” One post questions whether Democrats staged the photo of a Salvadoran migrant and his 23-month-old daughter who drowned in the Rio Grande. Another crudely photoshopped image shows Ocasio-Cortez performing oral sex on President Donald Trump.

Top Border Officials Condemn 'Highly Inappropriate' Secret Facebook Group
Top officials in the agency overseeing border security condemned a secret Facebook group for current and former Border Patrol agents that featured jokes about migrant deaths, obscene images of Hispanic lawmakers and threats to members of Congress as the lawmakers themselves on Tuesday amplified their criticism of the agency.

Carla Provost, the chief of the Border Patrol, sent an email to her agents describing the posts in the group as “highly inappropriate and offensive.” The Customs and Border Protection agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility and the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general began an independent investigation into the posts, Ms. Provost said.

Given that this type of behavior is encouraged by the current president, it should be no surprise that people that considered immigrants and asylum seekers as less than human infect the Border Patrol. We've already seen them destroy water jugs left out for people that might find themselves stranded in the desert, so it's safe to say they have no issue dehumanizing people. And given the use of concentration camps, groups like this are not a surprise.

I have to say--I'm really surprised you posted a thread about this!

There May Be More Racist Border Patrol Facebook Groups
On Saturday, CNN reported that it had found another Facebook group in which Border Patrol frequently posted racist and generally bigoted memes, called 'The Real CBP Nation." Thousands of members had left the group in the wake of ProPublica's report on "I'm 10-15" according to one of the posts on CNN. The news outlet obtained screenshots of hateful content from the secret group, however, Facebook told CNN that it had since taken action to moderate and remove hateful posts in the group. CNN noted that it was not able independently verify the contents of the group and if its members were official CBP employees.

This follows a report that US Customs and Border Protection had long been aware of, and even had investigated, another Facebook group where its agents often posted sexist, racist, and sometimes violent content but didn't do much about it, according to a former Department of Homeland Security official who spoke with Politico.
