  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I watched through the first 89 episodes and two OVAs in about a two-three week period (the said part is, I got most of those back in January). I'm currently waiting for 91-whatever to come out since I refuse to put up with the crappy quality sound & video in DB's releases, not to mention that I stay away from speedsubbers whenever possible.

I mourned it. Did you hear Kon at the end? They slaughtered him...
I'd say that it ranged from pretty on-cue to really mediocre in places, although it's far from the worst that I've heard. Kon's voice would probably be the one really terrible element that I've seen - er, heard - sofar.

On a side-note, however, at least now I can watch all of Trinity Blood - I only got the first 8 episodes back during its fansub run, and I've got no money for when it comes out on DVD here (unless I'm miraculously able to get a job in the meantime), so at least I can see it.

Or collectively gather to mourn.

Agreed

I love Bleach but hate the dubs of nearly anything. But this dub isn't all together to bad, they butchered saying "Kurosaki" though.

I'm currently up to date on both the anime and the manga, but I find the manga more interesting that the filler

Yes, they did, he doesn't sound...umm I dunno, annoying enough, no, he doesn't sound Kon-ish. I dunno, they did a horrible job with that voice actor.

It's just said slower, which is to be expected when using English. The dub retained the Japanese 'ro' syllable rather than replacing it with the English 'ro', so I'm wondering just what it is that you mean by them 'butchering' it, since all the other syllables in 'Kurosaki' pose no problem for English speakers and were said correctly. Like I said, the only real difference is that it was said slower (and any honorifics were dropped, but that's normal and also expected in English).

What got to me was the fact that many of the original Japanese terms that have key importance - 'kidou', 'zanpakutou' and the like - were retained rather than translating them, but 'shinigami' was converted to 'Soul Reaper' for some inane reason. Either translate them all, or none of them.

It sounded to me as if he was trying to pronounce it the japanese way by saying "Kulosaki" but ended up an odd combination of what sounded like "Kurlosaki"

Okay so maybe they didn't butcher it but it could have sounded a bit better.

And yea, I was wondering about the shinigami thing, they should have left it because I also noticed that they kept kidou, if they were going to translate they should have put demon arts, but oh well.

Haven't heard them say zanpakutou yet, but I'm most certainly looking forward to it ^_^

The Japanese way of pronouncing it isn't 'Kulo' - it is a hybrid of r and l in Japanese, because there aren't distinct r or l sounds in that language (depending on context it gets assigned one of the two when transliterated, although I've noticed it almost always gets treated as an 'r'). It's a somewhat-trilled noise that sounds like both r and l at the same time. During the recap section that occurs before the opening in the episode 60 range (I gave that as an example because I've got a couple of those eps laying on my hard drive at the moment), you can hear it if you pay close attention when the name is said.

That particular noise is actually one of the harder things about Japanese pronunciation to get right, especially for someone coming from an English-speaking background. Other sounds, like tsu, are far easier or even second-nature if the person knows both English and German (as the ts sound is approximately the same as the German z - coincedently, I wonder whether the 'zeige dich' command and the rest of the German phrases used in the Bount arc will stay in German or get translated to 'show yourself' and the other appropriate English phrases).

Haven't heard them say zanpakutou yet, but I'm most certainly looking forward to it ^_^
Rukia said it when giving the instructions on transferring her power into Ichigo, and again in the following thought process about not having seen one that large.
