Hmm....it could really help out environmentalist laws, too, if desecrating Mother Earth was blasphemous.

People who don't love the CREATOR are likely not going to totally appreciate the creation.

GOD is not mocked either.

So if you shoot someone, you're mocking him/her?

Can't shoot or blow up GOD. Prove to me HE doesn't exist.

GOD MIGHT BE A PARTICLE WAVE! Besides, prove to me that IT does exist.

HEY YOUR BLASPHEMING AGAINST MY GOD!

Some genius decided to introduce such a law in Ireland, and last I checked Atheist Ireland is going to release an extremely blasphemous and offensive document mocking every known religious denomination in existance, including Atheist Ireland to cause court confusion. I personally think it would be much entertaining if they made up a religion a la Spaghetti Monster and said Christians were blaspheming the FSM by quoting the Bible, as others have suggested.

I eat spaghetti ---- can you eat GOD?

But then it would be illegal for them to talk about their views, wouldn't it? That would be blasphemous.

Oh look, can't teach proper science, it's too blasphemous.
Oh look, pi can't be 3.14 any more, that's blasphemous.
Close down the 24/7 stores, working on the sabbath is blasphemous.

They've been witnessed to.

This would hold up quite well with the American people.

"You know your cousin the atheist? Nice guy, huh? Yeah, well, we're throwin' him in JAIL because Joe Biblethump IV of the Second Coming Reformed Thrice Southern Texas Baptists told him we have it right, but he didn't listen!"

Reminds me of what a certain group called Al Quaida (spelling?) has to say about 80% of the world's population. So tell me, what makes them wrong? They witnessed to YOU when they bombed the Trade Centers. How dare you blaspheme Allah and follow the Christian heretics!

I said OUR GOD. That includes everyone. There is only one GOD and HE is LORD over all.

Ah - but others would disagree You don't seem to mind blasphemy against gods who aren't your god.

That is why I'm not a papist. I do not believe in transsubstantiatio.

Ah - so the only reason that people can't eat your god is because you don't believe they can (whereas the Catholics believe the opposite).

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. "

And yet, in March, 2009, under prompting from Pakistan, the UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution on "defamation of religion:"

"Defamation of religious is a serious affront to human dignity leading to a restriction on the freedom of their adherents and incitement to religious violence," the adopted text read, adding that "Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism."

It called on states to ensure that religious places, sites, shrines and symbols are protected, to reinforce laws "to deny impunity" for those exhibiting intolerance of ethnic and religious minorities, and "to take all possible measures to promote tolerance and respect for all religions and beliefs." (emphasis mine)

Virtually everyone outside the US at least recognises that the "right" of freedom of opinion, expression or speech is not an absolute right that overrides all others.
