Blanket help

Did you use receiving blankets to wrap the baby or did you buy swaddling wraps? Or both? What worked best for you?

I have some regular receiving flannel blankets but keep seeing these swaddlers & wondering if they make a big difference.

I was given some of the swaddling blankets and they were nice to have but I wouldn't have spent much money on them myself.

I used regular receiving blankets. I'd wrap him tight tight like they showed me at the hospital, it made him more secure. When he got older I used the 30x30 blankets.

I never used thicker blankets because DS would get too hot.

We were never able to swaddle in a receiving blanket (our boys were too big for them) so I made some receiving blankets that were much larger to give me plenty of room for swaddling, and we used all those receiving blankets we were given as burp cloths, liners for any public item we might happen to need to use either for seating, cradling our babies, or for changing them (like the public changing tables we would line with the receiving blankets or the baby seats in grocery carts).

Even as newborns?

Yep, even as newborns. I have photos of my daughter just after she was born trying to escape from the swaddle. Every time the nurses would try to swaddle her she'd wriggle until she broke free. Both my kids have liked to spread out.

My niece was the same way. They could never swaddle her, she'd always wiggle out. My SIL tried everything, the receiving blankets and the swaddling blankets.

Guess I won't be stocking up on blanekts & just wait & see what will be needed.

We used the light cotton "wraps" they are just made of cotton or flannel a bit like a sheet only smaller.

Mine were the same way. Nurses or grandmas would tightly swaddle them and they'd be so angry until they were able to move around freely within our arms.

We had receiving blankets that were large enough to swaddle but mostly they were used to clean up all the wonderful reflux spit.

Both of mine were like this too and my youngest still likes to be in as few clothes as possible and rarely sleeps under the covers.

Both of mine LOVED being wrapped as tight as possible. I used regular receiving blankets and wrapped them with those.

I swaddled my boys with regular receiving blankets. I used those things for everything! LOL! as burp cloths, swaddling blankets, to cover my new ones up in the summer, as bibs. you name it.

But the swaddling phase only lasted a short time. I'd say till they were around 2-3 months old. then they didn't like to be swaddled anymore.

Justin was always way too big for receiving blankets. I could never get him swaddled in one. I always had to use regular baby blankets.

I wouldn't buy any receiving blankets. You will be given about a zillion of them as gifts. I did buy two swaddlers. I liked both of them. They were much easier than trying to get him wrapped in a blanket. He didn't like being swaddled much after the first week or so though.

Really? I guess Justin was weird. He stayed swaddled until he was nearly seven months old. At least when he slept. LOL by the time he stopped being swaddled, he being being wrapped in big throw blankets. The swaddlers never did it for us, either though. He was too long for them.

I'm a huge fan of swaddling blankets. My son LOVED them. I did use receiving blankets, as well, but definitely preferred the swaddling blankets because they were easier to wrap when I was half asleep.

We are not having a shower unfortunately. So that's why I'm trying to get a feel for exactly what & how many I may need to buy.

I didn't have a shower either but you will still get gifts from people after the baby is born.
