Whoops... that significant detail was left out of the political jab at the Bidens.

    COVID-19 Vaccination

According to the CDC, fully vaccinated individuals can "visit with other fully vaccinated people indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing."

Both the Bidens and Carters are vaccinated...

The vaccine isn't 100%, and the elderly are most susceptible. That's not even factoring in the variants....

That doesn't matter. If the CDC says it's allowed, then it is allowed.

I doubt that the White House would allow the Bidens to visit the Carters without being tested. Aren't the Bidens frequently tested for COVID-19 anyway?

Everyone in the room is fully vaccinated; no one has the variants. They are following the guidelines, but your concern for all is truly touching. Awesome, dude!

If you are unvaccinated you might need to wear a mask in public around all the vaccinated people because they might shed their vaccine side effects onto you. *wink*

So much for the "science" then?

As long as the CDC is accepted as the arbiter of science, truth and wisdom, then there's no way Covid will be spread around between those 4 people. But hey, if one of them catches Covid, they'll just say, "There's no evidence to suggest that it came from that particular meeting". And that will be that.

Nothing is 100%. I'd think they all 4 agreed theyre ok with current CDC guidelines. If not, then yeah, thats a problem.

If you dont know one way or the other, then youre just making an ignorant fuss.

The science says they're quite safe if they're all vaccinated. Not perfectly safe, of course, but no activity is perfectly safe.

I assume the current and former presidents (and their families) had access to the vaccine pretty early on, yes?

Safe to assume they've all had their vaccines (+14 days for antibody formation), yes?

I don't see what the issue is here.

If Biden wants to wear a mask outdoors in public to virtue signal, then I suppose one could call him out for virtue signaling. But four fully-vaccinated people meeting indoors without masks isn't any cause for alarm.

Is this a case where people want to all of the sudden care about covid risks and caution when they've demonstrated none of it up until this point? Or is it simply a opportune moment to "bash Biden"?

If one wants to criticize Biden, maybe keep it focused on the glaring holes in his new tax plan rather than trivial things like this.

How much longer can this insanity go on? It is time to impeach Biden and put Trump back in office.

Wouldn't it have been nice if families (ordinary families not connected to the ruling class) would have been able to make that decision for themselves last Thanksgiving without having to worry about the gestapo coming in and arresting them?

    Covid, trivial???
Haven't you been watching the news? We all have to do our part! We're all in this together! We can't afford to have biden thumbing his nose at Covid in front of the cameras. What kind of message does that send to our young people?

There's a stark contrast (in terms of externalities) between "small group of fully vaccinated people hanging out" vs. "let's have a huge family gathering with 20 people when very little natural immunity exists"

Obviously, virtually every freedom we have comes with a certain level of potential externalities... but certain ones we accept, and other we try to mitigate for.

And that decision is largely based on potential impact to others.

For instance, if we let people drive drunk and said "well, let's just let everyone make their own decision about whether or not they want to assume the risks associated with getting on the road", you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would think that was an acceptable standard.

For the record, I think a lot of the lockdown measures did go too far, and actually voiced my opinion here on CF that I think Ron DeSantis's choice to go "full re-open" wasn't such a bad thing given the culture and climate of his state.

The real irony I see behind this is that many in the camp of "there should be no measures at all, just let people make their own choices and assume their own risks...if other people are worried about impacts to them, then they can be the ones to stay home"...are the same ones in the camp that vehemently oppose a myriad of other things (and want the government to back them up with force) on the grounds of externalities.

For instance, the people who were bent out of shape about the trans-bathroom situation...given your position on Covid restrictions, safe to assume you'd set them straight and tell them "well, if you're that worried about the negligible risk of a person trying to assault a female family member in the bathroom, then you should just stay home or avoid going to the bathroom at the store"?

Or with marijuana, would you tell the opponents of legal marijuana "well, if you're that afraid of a person smoking a joint and going ballistic, then just stay home and let other people assume whatever risks they want to take"?
