Yes, other than the one grievous error David had with taking Bathsheba and setting Uriah up to be killed, I agree that he was a good king precisely for doing just that, treating others, especially his servants, with respect in spite of his power, and refusing to bloody his hands any more than he had to, even Saul, the man who sought to kill him out of petty jealousy.

Psalms 66 through 68

Sorry, I don't have much to say about the reading from Psalms today. The book of Psalms is beautiful and has often given me comfort and hope. I also like to turn them into prayers. These psalms 66-68 are praises lifted to God for his faithfulness, steadfast love, his salvation, etc. The joy of the psalmist is almost palpable. Psalm 66 is a psalm about the children of Israel crossing over the red sea and God delivering them from Egypt.

Well, hey, it never hurts to specify. Maybe those enemies who do not possess hair on their head will be allowed to go without punishment. =P

Proverbs 2 and 3

I love when I see the word steadfast love in the Old Testament. Often it is the Hebrew word chesed/hesed. Chesed brings the idea of faithful love in action. In the OT it refers to God's lovingkindness expressed in His covenant relationship with Israel. It is God's persistent, unconditional tenderness, kindness, and mercy. God seeks after man with love and mercy. This one word shows God’s loyalty to His covenant and His love for His people along with a faithfulness to keep His promises.

The reason I bring this up is because steadfast love is used in both Prov 2 and 3.

Also my "life" verse is Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."

God has used these verses time and time again to comfort me and that ultimately I need to trust in him no matter what is going on.

- I find this to be a very inspiring piece. Solomon says that in the seek of wisdom, the best place to look at is to get to know God, who is the one who gives the wisdom.

Also, the verse 4 is beautiful. To seek God "as silver, as for hid treasures" sounds pretty intense. I was thinking that maybe I should understand it rather as "recognizing the value of what I might find" as a treasure, rather than as the physical mania of people in a treasure hunt?

Actually I was thinking it as both. I think in my time of struggle with scrupulosity a few years ago, the latter described my situation pretty well, how turbulent my emotions were and why. Perhaps it was that I was seeking after God in a way I never had before, with a fervency unlike anything I had experienced in all of the eleven years previous that I had been a believer. And He knew very well it would turn out this way.

Forgive me as I had failed to get this posted early in the day, but for today in prophecy we will be reading the entire book of Lamentations.

One passage from Lamentations that I had grown attached to a few years ago in my OCD struggle and constantly recited was chapter 3:21 through 23 (in fact, even now amazingly I can type it out from memory rather than having to look it up to copy and paste; that is how many times I kept thinking of it back then) ->

"Yet this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope. Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. His mercies are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness."

Sorry, Sk, that I haven't been keeping up with these very well.

Galatians 4-6 has a plethora of gold to mine but I just wanted to comment on one thing.

I think it's interesting that in Galatians 5 we have a list of the fruit of the Spirit and not fruits. I haven't studied on it so take what I am about to say with a grain of salt. I wonder if the reason it is "fruit of the Spirit" and not "fruits of the Spirit" is because it all originates with the Holy Spirit or if it is a unit and not to be looked at individually because the greek word is singular? Anyway just some musings that I will need to look into later.

Not at all. Just glad to see you here every now and then. I myself am three days behind on reading, so it's not like I have any room to talk even if this thread were part of some religious dictatorship program, anyway. ^-^

I don't think there is really any significance to its being singular there in that one verse, myself, really, but that's just me. The "fruits" of the Holy Spirit are listed as nine positive attributes in that same chapter, I believe, so in any event, it seems to me that whether the word fruit is put in singular or plural, there they are right there as an example for us, and we should strive to uphold all of them. When we are patient, kind, and disciplined, we know these things are being displayed through us by the Holy Spirit. When we act the opposite of such things, then, while I pretty firmly believe in once saved always saved, I believe we are suppressing the Spirit in us and displaying fleshly qualities, instead.
