But more seriously, I finally decided to look into a proposed explanation for Samson's character throughout his story in Judges that we read today (because let's be honest, on the surface his actions and temperament make him out to be a petty man when it comes to choosing wives and prone to losing his temper easily enough to erupt into great violence, although of course God was obviously using that for His purposes of taking down the Philistines who had Israel under their oppression at the time). And while I have only skimmed through it so far, it seemed pretty solid to me. It also included some notes from Charles Spurgeon on the issue, which is always a nice plus.

You know, honestly I was tempted for a moment to go back and consider the school of thought that believes Paul was actually a false believer and never had a divine encounter with Christ who saved him on the road to Damascus in the book of Acts, at all, thus he was spreading lies in contradiction to Christ's teachings from the four Gospels and we should avoid the epistles written by Paul. Because up front the words "my gospel" that Paul uses in Romans 16:25 certainly would sound suspicious, wouldn't they? But I do not believe he means there to take any sort of credit on par with Christ, like Paul has his own totally unique gospel to preach and you should listen only to him.

But for me, I simply chalk it up to him meaning that he experienced a unique revelation in his encounter with Christ, in that it was divine in nature, with the voice from Heaven and Paul's being struck blind and all, and that Paul's experience was heavily focused on the grace of God to save even the most awful of sinners, because remember, Paul was a Jew who actually encouraged the imprisonment and execution of those preaching Christ's great Gospel, right? And yet God intervened and converted the hard-hearted Paul. When Jesus walked the earth, His teachings focused more on the coming Heavenly kingdom, repentance, and obeying the Law ultimately by loving others and loving God the Father. But because of what happened with Paul, I assume his task was to preach more on the grace of God in accepting anyone as His children, whether Jew or Gentile, and even those who sinned as greatly as Paul did back when he was known as Saul. It wasn't a different Gospel Paul preached, per se, as in he was presenting a false Christ, different altogether from the real Messiah whose time of teaching is presented in the four gospels. No, I believe Paul believes in the same Christ that the twelve apostles walked with, but he was given a different task and focus in going out into the Gentile nations to preach it.
Anyone have a different thought here?
