Yea i was thinking, was he being hypothetical or was Job actually proud that he was wealthy and not care about anyone else. I mean he could have been, just followed all the rules but neglected to care fore the poor around him. Many people do that. Law abiding citizens, but, just really dont care about other people and their circumstances as long as they look good.
Why would eliphaz say that if he was his friend...? Its not like he was a random stranger.

Wow, Paul and the corinthians.

Its interesting that so many in todays church think its wrong to judge, but here Paul is saying that there needs to be judgement inside the church otherwise they are tolerating wicked people, like the guy who slept with his fathers wife.

I was thinking about egypt and how the hebrews stayed there because if the famine and also wondering were they the slaves that built the pyramids or were they already there at the time of this story? It talks about Rameses, one of the Pharoahs, but Im not up on my egyptian history to know the dates of when everything happened...

Without going back into Scripture I don't really understand how the Hebrews came to be slaves in the first place in Egypt, if for no other reason than Joseph becoming a man favored by the Pharaoh and put in charge if many things. I am probably missing something obvious, but, I'd think any descendants of him or his brothers would therefore be treated better.

Its because of the famine in the land of cannan I thought and that led them to Egypt, and because Joseph had the favoured position they were allowed to stay as tenants working for the egyptians. Then I think they put them to work making pyramids, as they were an easy source of cheap labour. I don't think the egyptians built those pyramids themselves. It was only Joseph and the other brothers at the time, and then they multiplied as they had more family. Cut to 400 years later, and we come to Moses asking Pharoah to 'let my people go' but thats in Exodus.

Im struck by, in Marks gospel, how Jesus had this beach or harbour ministry. He was always going on ships and catching fish and walking on water and calming storms and talked about being a salty christian.

I almost feel like saying aye aye captain.

A few comments I thought of in the back of my mind as I read the last few days' entries:

Not really anything new to say about Isaiah 62 through 66 since it seems to have the same recurring theme of alternating a punishment for forsaking God and then promises of a restoration and a new heart from Him.

There are instances of amazement from both human and "spirit" (I put that in quotes because I never really know how to picture or understand what a spirit is in these cases) at Who Jesus is when He performs the miracles that He does. I really like how even the "unclean" spirits are said to bow and proclaim He is the Son of God in Mark 3. And then at the end of Mark 4 when Jesus calms the storm with a single command and His disciples say in amazement to one another "Who is this that even the winds and the sea obey Him?!" Attesting further to the veracity that Christ is the Son of God.

And I am glad to see that St. Paul here in 1 Corinthians 7 and 8 clearly indicates what teachings he has resulting from his own personal views and convictions, rather than trying to impose anything upon his listeners as the will of God when he knows by the Spirit within him that both options are acceptable in a believers' personal life, but Paul believes he was called by God to live one way, and some of his listeners another, such as in the matters of marriage. We all must accept one another as believers for who we are in many aspects, as we all have different callings from the Holy Spirit, and are led down different paths in certain matters. As not everything in the world is an evil path forbidden by God just because it happens to be different or even opposed to yours. For instance, I feel called by the Holy Spirit to start a new life in Canada soon, but He might be calling another person to as far off as Australia at the same time. In marriage matters, He might call some to take on a spouse with a certain type of personality, while for others He would not have them take a spouse with that kind of personality. And so on. There are hundreds of examples.
