65/ What drastic action did Ezra take to sort out all the religious problems in Jerusalem ?

religious problems? Was this about religion, or the living God?

He was compelled to have the men send away the strange wives that they had taken for themselves, that corrupted the holy seed, and that was a blatant and deliberate abomination against the living God.

Brinny,

Thank you for your excellent answer to question 65.

NEW QUESTION

66/ Who was Nehemiah ?

Nehemiah was a man of prayer and a precious soul who prayed for his people AND included himself in asking forgiveness for transgresses against the God of Israel. His prayer indicated the heart he had for the people, for he said "we" as in "we" transgressed against You, O God. Reminds me of this verse:

"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." ~James 5:16

Nehemiah was the cup-bearer for King Artaxerxes of Persia.

to rebuild Jerusalem and reform the community there.....

Gennypearl,

Well done you got spot on. I am reading through the Bible and I have got as far as Nehemiah.

So while I am studying Nehemiah I am giving out a few quiz questions about it.

Until this week I could not tell you one thing about Nehemiah, but by the end of next week I will be an expert.

Thank you for answering the quiz question.

Well done Gennypearl.

he rode in secret for that night, it was organized thoroughly, the building operation was divided among forty-two bands of workpeople, he wanted to rush the work so it could advanced enough to afford protection for the citizens

Gennypearl,

Yes and in Nehemiah Chapter 4v16 it says that half the people had to act as guards and they carried spears, shields and bows.

I am in England and the time is 8 in the morning.

What time is it in the Philipines ?

It is 3:59 in the afternoon.

Gennypearl,

Yes that is interesting. I believe you are 8 hours ahead of our time in England.

Well thank you for answering the quiz question.

I will try to think of another quiz question about Nehemiah tomorrow.

Today I will be studying Nehemiah Chapter 5.

69/ Why were poor Jews losing their homes and vineyards ?

Because they are mortgaging it to get grain for the famine

Gennypearl,

Yes they mortgaged their lands and vineyards through usury which is money lending with interest.

Then the nobles and rulers were taking the vineyards of the Jews for not paying the debt.

Thank you for your answer Gennypearl.

In Nehemiah 5, what was the greatest sin of the nobles, and the rulers?

Brinny,

The nobles and rulers were taking the homes, lands and vineyards of the Jews through usury.

If the debts were not paid they took the homes, and even sold some Jews into slavery to pay the debts.

Nehemiah ordered the nobles to give the homes and lands back to the Jews.

Yes, it was quite abominable. Underneath it all, and the most dastardly, was that they had no "fear of God" or regard for Him whatsoever in their hearts. What this boils down to is that they despised God in their hearts.
