He built a gallows and planned to hang Mordecai, and attend a banquet to celebrate what was coming to Mordecaii.....

78/ How did King Xerxes honour Mordecai for saving his life from his eunuch guards who planned to assassinate the king ?

All that Haman thought would surely be done for him, was done for Mordecai, much to Haman's shock and humiliation:

7 And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,

8 Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:

9 And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.

10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.

80/ Xerxes said he could not revoke the proclamation exterminating the Jews.
So what happened ?

He ordered another proclamation that the Jews could defend themselves and to prepare to fight their enemies and all who would attempt to do them harm.

Brinny,

Thank you for your excellent answers about the book of Esther.

We now move on to the Book of Job.

82/ What horrible disasters hit Job at the very start of the story ?

These hit him all at once:

14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:

15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

17 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

18 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

NEXT QUESTION

83/ What additional disasters clobbered poor old Job in Chapter 2.

Poor Job is right....how miserable this must have been:

7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

NEXT QUESTION

Poor old Job goes through some really hard times but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

83/ What happens to Job at the end of the story in Chaper 42 ?

Job's captivity by Satan is turned around by God and consequently his health is restored, and he is blessed with 7 sons and 3 daughters, and he is more wealthy than he was before, and his family and friends came and gave him gifts and comforted him...

what is most profound, however, is that Job's heart and spirit are healed because God had entered the picture to assure Job that He had not forgotten him and WAS indeed there during all of Job's suffering, even if He seemed absent. In Job's heart, he had his God back. And THIS is what he had been looking for all along.
