A giant cod fish
(Ponde) swam ahead of Ngurunderi,
"The fish was dragged up onto a sand shoal where Ngurunderi cut it into many small pieces. One piece he held up, and, as he threw it into the lake, he called, 'You, boney bream!' As he threw the next piece, he called, 'You, perch!' Then he cut another, 'You, callop!' Another, 'You, catfish!' Yet another, 'You, mudfish!' So he cut all the pieces, throwing them into the water, making the fish. The small pieces he threw in to form sprats. Then he threw the last piece, 'You, Murray cod!' "

Pundu resembles the word Pandya and other Indonesian words.
" The dynasty ruled parts of South India from around 600 BCE (
Early Pandyan Kingdom) to first half of 17th century CE. They initially ruled their country
Pandya Nadu from
Korkai, a seaport on the southernmost tip of the Indian Peninsula, and in later times moved to
Madurai. Fish being
their flag, Pandyas were experts in water management, agriculture(mostly near river banks) and fisheries and they were eminent sailors and sea traders too.
Pandyan was well known since ancient times, with contacts, even diplomatic, reaching the
Roman Empire. "

"Kediri or
Kadiri (also known as
Panjalu) was a
Hindu Javanese Kingdom based in
East Java from 1042 to around 1222."
It possibly has links with the city of Kadiri , Andhra Pradesh SE India , of Pandya . At this time the Pandji legends were written in Indonesia with Yuyu Kang Kang story about a river being blocked and released by a crab with a fishy smell. Hindu traditions were adapted in Indonesia to local forms and they kept the antique god Indra who was replaced in India around 2000 years ago. Indra made sacred pools in SE Asia and sent rains, as a warrior king. He has a statue in Bali Indonesia.
In 1222 king Kertajaya of Kediri in Java told his Hindu-Buddhist priests to worship him as Shiva. They rebelled and Ken Arok attacked. Kertajaya " disappeared without trace ", " went to the land of gods" _ G Coedes 1968.
Bundjalung people of north NSW remember that a boat arrived from Ngareenbil "overseas islands" ( meaning "your beloved countryman" in Old Balinese language). The 3 brothers gave laws to countries. Their names and the grandmother's name are from O Bali language similar to Javanese. They landed at the mouth of the Clarence river which leads to Tenterfield and headwaters of the Darling river.
