  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh, and as for the OP asking for Biblical support of evolution...

Apart from Genesis 1 having God telling the ground to bring forth plants (which is exactly what evolution says), there Ecclesiastes 3:18-21...

Ecclesiastes 3:18-21 said:
3:18I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
3:19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
3:20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

Sure seems to describe man being an animal!

And you may roll your eyes at this, but I have learned so much from you guys, that I can truly appreciate the verse that says: iron sharpeneth iron.

I dread having to repeat myself and going through something all over again.

My single biggest fear here, is that I'll inadvertently contradict myself and set myself back five years.

That's one of the biggest reasons I qv many of my answers.
Ah, I see where you are coming from now :) But... if you are learning from people here, wouldn't that mean you answers should change?

The seller insists the documentation is correct and claims to have seen the "Ferrari" being made in early 2010. What would you believe?
If it actually happened, then I would conclude the Land Rover came into existence ex nihilo -- (or materia).

No other explanation, that I know of, would work.

If God was talking to the ground here ...

Genesis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

What was He talking to here?

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Sure seems to describe man being an animal!

Not so fast...

The basic instincts of animals are self preservation, self gratification, and self propagation. But no animal practices self justification or self righteousness.

Evolution is a religion designed to provide pagans justification for their animalistic life. (Romans 1:18-32; 2 Thess. 2:10-12) All men will face the judgement of God, but no animal faces judgement (Matt 12:36-37; Rom 2:16; Heb 9:27).

As for the the plants in Genesis 1. By reading chp. 2 you will see that God had already created the plants before he ever put them in the earth.

Genesis 2
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and [there was] not a man to till the ground.

Genesis 2:5 kinda kills the evolution thing. Biblically speaking.

Context, context, context...

Since evolution is real as rain, regardless of your silly and insulting ideas about it.

i guess it kinda kills your bible thing. Too bad.

Thats it? What kills my bible thing??? Your silly comment?

you were the one with the silly comment:

Evolution is a religion designed to provide pagans justification for their animalistic life

Its pretty amazing that a person who can say, and actually believe something this outlandish, and actually believe it.

But setting that aside...

i realize you think you can inerrently interpret the bible, even to the exact use of prepositions such as "in'.. Now, anyone who knows more than one language knows that prepositions are not consistent in their usage among languages. Did you know that?

Any person with a bit of humility of any sort knows they are not inerrant. do you?

YOUR "bible thing' doesnt stand up to the fact that evolution is real.

The U I attend is in the 'bible belt'. Most students are christians. and in the bio dept, same with professors, and, being intelligent thoughtful people, they know evolution is real. And it doesnt mess with their faith.*
Whats your prob? Evolution, or your faith in your inerrancy?

* some of them might take a bit of offense at your saying they are seeking to justify an animalistic life-whatever that is supposed to mean- but most would probably just say to go back to the trailer park and not bother sensible folk with your prejudiced prattle.

Oh is that what the "mostly Christian students" would say? Of course they would...

Most students are christians.

Keep reading that over and over until you understand what you have just said.

i suppose they would say something to the effect.."but most would probably just say to go back to the trailer park and not bother sensible folk" because fundamentalism / creationism is so closely correlated with a low level of income and education.
its an embarrassment to educated Christians.

Of course most students here are christian, and they understand evolution just fine.

Most students at the U of Hong Kong are not christian, and they understand evolution just fine.

What is your problem that you cant understand it? Faith in your inerrancy?

I confess -- there's one thing I'm not looking forward to in the near future:

The screams of people saying, "Oh, God! They were right! They were right!"

Are you going to give a serious answer to what I asked you?

The grad school group here is a small one, we all know eachother.
Of course I know who is moslem and who is christian and who is atheist.

As for U of Hong Kong, do i need to explain why not many are Christian?

now, why is it that educated christians have no problem with evolution, and you do?

Thats the thing brother. They want to be right. I wish for their sake I was wrong. But Gods Word is Truth.

Because the rest of the Christians are at a Christian college?

Like:

  • The United Christian College @ 2 Lee on Lane
  • Cnec Christian College @ 6 Lei Pui Street
  • The YMCA of Hong Kong Christian College @ 2 Chung Yat Street

The emboldened portion intrigues me. Not that you wouldn't wish goodness, but by saying 'for their sakes' you imply that you feel that there is something tragic awaiting those who accept evolution as true (such as myself). Do you care to expand.

Also,. you mentioned 'God's Word' - http://www.christianforums.com/t7542608/

Yes, I don't like the cheap shot comments so lets keep it serious. First of I was responding to another poster who was trying to imply the Bible saying we were all beasts (just the same, no different) I showed him scripturally, we are different.

Now to your question. Who is educating them, man or God? It seems the "educated Christians" and the non believers share the same belief, (((evolution))). Do you not find that alarming?
