  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have any of you tried the Forgotten Hope mod? It's a very visceral experience. It's much easier to die, the weapons are more 'realistic' - i.e. Bolt guns for German and British assault troops, etc. There are some new vehicles and reskinned old ones. New maps, too.

What is the big selling point for me is the atmosphere of the mod. Ambient sounds (such as German cabaret music playing in bunkers, sounds of battle, etc) are incredible, the weapon and vehicle noises sound very nice as well.

If you are fond of rush tactics you will find FH to be very difficult. You had better get used to teamwork and keeping your head down!

Yes I’ve had it since release and I have the first expansion.

Yes I have DS Mod but I like the WWII theme better.

AI is still not very good but I mainly play on-line anyway.

So far my favorite map is Coral Sea that was released as a download. It’s purely a flying map with only two aircraft carriers but I often hang out on the island closest to the ship and snipe off the players as they fight over aircraft *evil grin*. I mainly go by the name xxxsniperxxx when playing bf1942 on-line.

I like objective in SW, conquest in all others. CTF is fun but since it never ends, it really can soak up your time.

I loved Coral Sea, I am strictly a ground pounder but do great work on the AA, and defending the carrier from campers - including hitching a ride out to the islands to cap ppl like xxxsniperxxx! :p

CTF is great! I’ve been playing CTF ever since my early quake days. CTF plays pretty well on BF1942 but it’s often hard to find a well-populated server.

El Alamein is generally my favorite CTF map. My most successful tactic so far playing on the Axis side is to land an aircraft just outside of to flag zone and sneak in with a medic to grab a jeep and the flag. Once I have the flag I boogie back to my airplane and ground hug my way back to base.

If I am capturing for the allied side, the jeep seems to often be my best bet all the way. That thing is so quick I usually only need to keep an eye out for aircraft.

Allied flag defense gives me the most frags. I park a tank right up against the little building (not the depot) on the airstrip side of the flag compound and wait for the Germans to line up to suck led. It seems to be a tuff spot for planes to get a good approach on.

I never hitch a ride in Coral Sea, I need to drop right on the top of the closest mountain where ground forces on the island cant climb up. From up there I can keep a watch on who is dropping in on the island and pick them off before they become a threat. Japanese carrier AA has a life expectancy of 10 seconds when I’m up on the mountain. I usually only get in any trouble when I run out of ammo and take a hike across the island to pick up more ammo.

How many of you scouts out there fulfill both parts of the scout role? By that I mean calling in artillery.

I have big issues with the general overuse and misuse of the scout. People are too worried about the number of kills they are getting and not getting bases or flags (or now in SW - completing objectives). I've watched the Allies lose at Omaha simply because there were 12 scouts on a 24 player side.

The same can be said for the other classes too. How many times have you noticed a medic who only seems to heal himself? An engineer who only repairs his own tank?

The game becomes increasingly easier when just a modicum of teamwork happens. So many people simply grab a tank and rush the enemy, why not wait for assault support? I've experienced games where a tank was supported by an APC crewed by an engineer and a medic, with 2 assault riding along as support. We owned the battlefield - if an enemy tank appeared the eng got behind our tank and repaired, the medic moved the APC out of sight while the assault guys layed low and took out enemy antitankers.

great teamwork!! its not that im always scout, it depends m how i died last.......if a tank killed me id be a antitank and go take him out, but if im just messin' around ill be scout, if a whole buncha infantry are trying to take our base i chose medic(i dont every use infantry bedause i dont think the gun is much better than medic , and medic has healthpacks) so it just depends............

Don'tcha find it frustrating when this happens. You're defending a base when a tank comes up and wastes you. So you select antitank and wait to spawn before he takes the base over. By the time you spawn someone else has destroyed the tank and now enemy infantry are assaulting! Before you can grab a fallen player's assault gear you are killed. Now you prepare to spawn as an assault or medic. By the time the clock winds down you enter and bboooomb! here comes the another enemy tank!

Ahh Omaha beach. I kind of think the opposite for that map, with the more scouts the better at least on the beach. If you have a good scout then the ship has very little chance of making it to the conclusion of the game. That’s one of the maps that I constantly call in artillery.

As for teamwork, well that’s often how I play most games. You have people that prefer to play solo and those that would rather play in a group to get the job done. BF1942 is often on the fly grouping compared to games like EQ. I mean if you are infantry and see a charge for the flag then it’s a good idea to jump in. Your team/side should focus on one flag at a time. Don’t follow scouts around though, they may not appreciate the extra person that may blow his cover. Even planes should keep an eye on their advancing troops and provide cover. Yep, some people just out right play it as a quake mod or something.
