Has anyone here ever heard of the Klezmatics?

They play a bohemian style called "klesmer". It's like Classical music mixed with jazz and Eastern European folk music on 2 hits of acid.

It's freaky good!


These musicians are better players than anyone I can think of in all genres. Seriously.


THey have some acid jazz stuff that would scare Miles Davis.

Haha, yes I've heard them once on the radio. Thanks for reminding me - I've got to get an album or two by them. Some of the liveliest music I've ever heard!

i was once a Kenny G fan... in my younger years... (i played saxophone for 13 years...) then I stumbled upon Boney James, Dave Brubeck, Tower of Power, etc. and that I had been sheltered from true jazz for a long time... true improv. is a great thing... haha!

Klezmer is a style of folk music that started primarily amongst eastern European Jews. Its almost exclusively sung in yiddish or hebrew. It is played in Israel too, but to my understanding it was transplanted there from Eastern Europe when Israel was opened to settlement and Jews from all over the world went to Israel.

The Klezmatics are kind of the "wild child" of Klezmer in the fact that they have songs about smoking pot and homosexuality.
