!I've not given much thought to weight loss. The only time I've lost weight of any amount in my life was when I was going thru my divorce. Then I loss a few lbs when I worked in the frozen fish business from all the lifting/physical work I was doing. But even then I looked a lot better because of the muscle tone I got from the work.
But now I'm back to sit down job and while I keep quite active I have put on some weight and lost muscle tone. I each more calories than I should because I get bored at work and I just like a good cookie. I have been eating some nuts to get protein and hoping I'll feel full and now want to snack. Might be helping some, but hasn't lead to any weight loss.
Soy has never agreed with me and I don't use it. Soy has phytoestrogens, and nobody should be taking in extra estrongen. It has also never agreed with my stomach.
Like others, I agree that sugar is the biggest problem. We are introduced to sugar at a far too young age, and it is very very hard to break the addiction. I am fortunate that I do not like - and therefore don't drink - any kind of soda or any drinks with sweeteners or sugars. Because I don't do that, I have less of a sweet tooth than otherwise.
A good way to figure things out is to keep a very accurate, very detailed food diary and write down your body's reactions to different foods. I recently did the JJ Virgin diet, and I cut out soy, gluten, sugar & artificial sweeteners, corn, peanuts, eggs and dairy. I had amazing results. I felt SO much better right away. I already know that I am sensitive to gluten, but I didn't know that soy was in so many foods that we eat! That was a shock.
I stay away from those foods now. I have replaced cow's milk with coconut milk (coconut milk yogurts are amazing!) and I have kicked totally the dairy habit.![]()
Everyone shouldn't say that it's bad for you or for anyone else. Some people genuinely have celiac disease, but many others have a "sensitivity". I can eat a small amount of gluen and be okay, but not a lot, or my stomach will let me know about it.Might be a good way, but it sounds way too hard for me. I am embarassed to admit this but I don't really understand gluten except that everyone says it's bad for you. I don't understand gluten or how to tell if its in the foods I like.
Not eating gluten has nothing to do with weight loss. Celiac disease is something quite specific, and that's what I'm saying. Lots of people are going gluten free, thinking it's 'healthier' and it's not - unless you have celiac or some other sensitivity. How would I know if I have issues with gluten? I could never give up bread and cookies forever. Maybe for a period of time but not forever, just sayin'.
I'm so disappointed that there is always a "new" solution to getting thin and none of it addresses all the problems that "could" be causing us to be overweight.
For me, sometimes I eat too many sweets. I love chocolate (something else I could never give up forever) but I also am going thru menopause and think that my hormones may be jacked up causing the recent gradual weight gain of about 20 lbs. So for me, unless and until I get my hormones in check I think it will be hopeless.
