I'm hoping someone can offer some advice on this. ..trying to learn about Christianity theres so much to it! Do you think God would mind if I confessed to something that I myself thought was a sin but to God it wasn't actually seen as a sin ..maybe I had misunderstood or been hard on myself. Do you think it's just best to cofness anyway if ever in doubt? Like there's no consequences to confessing to something you thought was a sin but god thinks its not..would He wonder why you are confessing as he doesn't class it as sinful? He wouldn't be mad for you not knowing would he? Sounds ridiculous but I'm trying to understand confession completely. So yeah the question is would he be angry and is there any consequence to confessing to something you think is a sin but god wouldn't class it as one? Please give as much opinion as poss to help me learn

Hello, and welcome to CF. :)

The short answer is, no, don't worry about it.

Sin is not "rules I have broken" .... sin is "missing the mark". And to be honest, there are MANY ways in which we miss the mark. We simply try to follow Christ, and confess those ways we know we fall short. "Sin" can be in thoughts as well as in words or deeds, things we do, or things we fail to do, and so on.

It is important not to get TOO caught up in and focused on our sins, though, to the point that we see them as larger than God's ability to forgive, or make too much of ourselves over them. The best way to guard against that is with a good pastor who can guide you in this. Sometimes it's difficult to judge for ourselves as we are too close to the situation, or too inexperienced.

But basically, no. God isn't going to get mad at you if you confess something unnecessarily. He isn't going to wonder either - He knows your heart, and that's what is important.

Again, welcome to CF! :)

th
We need to confess our lack of faith in God, or if it's something one feels might not be listed in the Bible as "sin" but the Holy Spirit within has irked you over it, then by all means tell God and give it up/make it right! But do it and be done with it, imo. Guilt and regret are the devil's tools by which he constrains us from doing God's work.
