  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Interesting article. Curious as to what the Christians here think:

Dig Finds Evidence Of Another Bethlehem : NPR

What would it mean to you if it could be determined that Jesus was born in Galilee, instead of Judea?

Science cannot recreate birth events. Historians rely on their sources.
If you want to predict where someone important will be born, that would
be a provable theory.

Name just 3 reasons then and I will be all over them. Here...now.

They've been given to you several times now. Hand-waving them off does nothing to refute the legitimacy of the doubt they create.

If I claimed that John F. Kennedy was born in Antarctica, could you falsify that claim using science and history?

Nope never seen a thing that had the slightest substance. Is that why you can't mention them, but talk in circles?

You never said one, either.
The link in the PO has nothing at all of substance. For example..

"He also found artifacts which showed that a few centuries later the community had become Christians and had built a large and ornate church. He says there is significant evidence that in early Christianity this Bethlehem was celebrated as the birthplace of Christ. ...."

So where is it? You happy some guy just said it???

I find that what is being reported is not supported. We have not seen that done here. 'they was likely a big church in area at some time..' You must be kidding.

Leave it to scientists to get the wrong address ... (not to mention the wrong date).

Wrong date? Wasn't it you religious types who set the date?

This is why God's "wise men" are different than Egypt's "wise man."

Well, they have one thing in common -- they can spot snake oil when it's being peddled.

What matters is that the Messiah came approx that time. That means hundreds of prophesies were fulfilled.

Or at least close enough...

Right. Anywhere close to 0 will do it. Not like Daniel 9 could possibly extend beyond say 40 AD. Either the Messiah came, or not, the door is closed now.

Right -- one must give prophets (and the people who record their prophecies) a certain amount of leeway -- call it poetic license.

Not really. The dates in prophesy are in days from a proclamation till Jesus....That window was narrow and closed when Jesus died. The only option anyone has would be to show another Messiah came IN that time.

Assuming, of course, that Jesus is the one the prophecies spoke of -- which is naturally what the Gospel writers worked very hard to illustrate.

It was either He or some other than lived at the exact same time.
