Well since when I started with the City of San Diego back in 1974 I was on a government sponsored type of hiring program for a couple of years before becoming a permanent employee, I guess I should not vote on this one?

But, I will anyway that's the way it's done up top the mountain.

My question, Bernie how much are you chipping in? You rich guy you.

So a private company pays your wages, not the City of San Diego?

Either way I think it is appropriate for you to vote.

I don't think "everyone" should have a government job, but I don't think it is a bad idea in general. However the way the government is currently, I wouldn't trust it. They are constantly trying to cut cost, cut jobs, and increase production. It ends up causing over work, under pay, and devalue employees, which leads to sabotaging the work and harming the vulnerable.

The feds were paying my wages through the City. It was called the Ceta Program. Most of us that really wanted a permanent job with the City were eventually hired. 32 years later I retired. I sure do appreciate that Program.

imo, these types of programs are a good investment of taxpayer's dollars. It's rather like investing in training for construction specialists such as carpenter's, plumber's, etc. and heavy equipment operators. These jobs are never going to go away and they pay well. Not all graduates are suited to or want a college education and there should be more educational opportunities for them.

Sure worked out good for me started in the Mailroom on the Ceta program then went to the library delivering library books to the different branches then received a permanent position at the Parks Department operating riding mowers and tractors and dump trucks then became an Equipment technician working on machinery and in the end fixing large water pipes and valves.

The pay and benefits was more than fair and the retirement is quite nice.

I agree that some of these government job programs would be good but, I don't think we can give everybody a job that wants one.

I'm disabled and never held a full time job due to many factors but largely in the labor market unless I am willing to work for under the minimum wage and keep my mouth shut about it I didn't work. So from my perspective I would give almost anything for a job where I could have been on benefits and save for retirement and hold up my head as a working man. Then as a Christian Man I would have sought a wife and have a family being a family man something I always thought was the most important job a man can do as a Fundamentalist, to raise God fearing and trained in the Lord Children. But due to no regular decent work I decided not to have that. How much is a man or woman whose disabled pride in their life worth? I don't know how it would be paid for we could reduce spending other places if we did this would we need welfare after all if everyone who wanted a job could get one barring the most unfit and disabled for example or special situations we wouldn't need Section 8, SNAP, Medicaid for so many people and many other programs. There would be savings. We could cut the military budget 30% or more and still have a formidable deterrent and offensive capability. So we could find some money if needed. But I like the idea just not sure how to fund it fully but I would note work is a good thing in the Bible work is important and we should consider that plus what is best for people.

Have you considered doing volunteer work? There is dignity and honor in volunteer work.

I'm active in street ministry and do work at my Church but its not paid and well even if I could work now my medical bills are acutely high with pain care requiring on just that over a thousand dollars a month, I would need a high paying job now. So was just saying Sanders proposal for those the marketplace won't readily hire is appealing just am not sure how to pay for all those unemployed to get a living wage and all the benefits needed, and he is talking a fifteen dollar an hour job, with serious benefits. This isn't a New Deal Program however with automation making jobs go away and some people unemployable in the workplace due to being undesired over other people it might be the only real option for conservatives.
