This is not a thread on the observance of the Sabbath as a necessity and a moral obligation on the part of all. It is on the benefits that man receives from the observance of the Sabbath, as Jesus said, "The Sabbath was made for man," Mark 2:27. Or, in other words, the Sabbath was made for the benefit of man.

The Sabbath is a day for the family to be together, a day of joy with gladness and fellowship, a meeting with God, a day of rest from our labors, a day of freedom from the every day toil, a day of remembrance of God and his blessings, a day to share love with and even serve our brothers and sisters......:groupray:

So what are some of the many benefits of the Sabbath, and how does it give a blessing to man.

Where do I start?

The Sabbath is the most incredible blessing in my life right now. It's a whole day where I don't have to worry about getting the kids up at 7:00 to get them ready, find shoes, make sure homework made it INTO the backpack, fed...drive them to school so I can rush home to study, do homework, do housework, laundry...run to the grocery store, go pick them up.

Uh oh...the storm alert is screeching right behind my house and the news is announcing severe weather conditions. The sky is getting dark and I hear the rumblings of something big.

I'll be back later!!

I'm still alive.

Not only is the Sabbath such a blessing because of the physical rest, it's at this time in my life, really one of the only chances I get to truly think about God and to pray. I pray every day, but I'm so swamped with stuff sometimes that I feel like stumblingblocks are being thrown at my feet constantly.

I have trouble praying sometimes, and there are times that I just tell Him that I'm still upset that He thinks I'm stronger than I think I am, but then I thank Him for that wonderful compliment.

There's just a different feeling on Sabbath. Especially now that Spring is approaching...it's just such a blessing to see the beauty of what He created start blooming all around me.

I know in most of our daily routines we really don't get many chances to stop and smell the roses, but on His holy day, they're just so brilliant that you can't ignore them anymore, at least I feel that way.

I have so many blessings in my life. None of the ones I really care about are materialistic in any way. My children, resting, quiet, love.

It's a truly wonderful thing to realize you get to enjoy something God Himself did that very first week, and that He loves you enough to let you share His day.

I can honestly say that if it weren't for the Sabbath, I don't think I'd have much of a relationship with God right now. I'm overwhelmed and I feel like I'm suffocating sometimes. It would be very easy for me to quit obeying the commandment, and I wouldn't have to juggle everything into six days...but if I did that, I'd get so consumed with LIFE that I'd forget about Who gave it to me in the first place.

I've been "there" before. It's a horrible feeling to think you're the only thing you can rely on. It's a disappointment and God proves that you're wrong.

I'm glad He got my attention, and I'm so thankful I serve a living God.

I can't say enough good things about the blessings of the Sabbath. I guess I probably have a few years to try though. :)

Thanks for starting this thread Red. It put some stuff into perspective for me.

The Sabbath is a great day to unplug from the world.

I don't have to think about work, cleaning, laundry or cooking a big meal. It's a day to rest and relax. And I don't have to feel guilty about not getting housework done.

It's a great reminder that God is still on the throne and in control. I can tell Him everything and know that He will work everything out with the best possible outcome.

The blessing is that I feel rested and refreshed, ready to take on the world again.
