Hi!
So, does anyone have experience with doing this all alone for oneself?
A couple of thoughts. Find a denomination that you feel comfortable with - might take trying out a few different churches.
DEFINITELY get involved with a church community. If you have a core group of friends who are solid Christians, and have lots of people as a resource, it becomes much easier when you hit a snag in your theological ruminations - the Christians I've encountered are more than happy to sit and listen and offer good solid advice, without sounding preachy. I started the whole thing by myself as well - I was dating a guy at the time, who was Christian, but was a little bit of a spiritual mess sometimes, and so it was hard for me to talk to him - he would get all defensive if I asked questions. So I sort of did a lot of my initial searching alone - and sometimes it's good, but it's much more beneficial to be able to bounce questions and thoughts off of other people. I kick myself now for not being more forceful with the ex in wanting to share with him what was going on as it was happening - I waited to tell him until I'd finally made a reasonably clear decision to follow Jesus - and it ended up being anti-climatic. It's much more satisfying to share with others - makes you seem to yourself less insane
