  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If I weren't sure what God thinks, as revealed in His Holy Scriptures, why would I take the time to even have this conversation with the lost?
You can share the Bible with people, and give them your opinion as to what you think the whole Book, and any given passage in it, means with respect to a particular issue like homosexuality. I find it pretty shocking, however, (blasphemous even) that you feel "sure" you know what God thinks.

I don't think Christians gloss over the sins you list, but when there's an "Adulterers' Pride Parade" or "Murderer's Anti-Defamation League" etc., you will see the same sort of action against those Proud Adulterers, Proud Murderers, Proud Thieves, Proud Covetors as we are taking against the Proud Homosexuals. We will never "normalize" male on male anal [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] or oral [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse].

That argument fails entirely because the reason that adulterers DON'T need to have parades is because adultery is normalized. People who commit adultery are not discriminated against, and they are not denied civil rights. Either are people who divorce on a whim, and let's not even get started on coveting. Our entire economic system is based upon coveting, so to even try to argue that it isn't normalized is ridiculous.

Gays and lesbians have parades because, unlike many other people labelled as sinners in the Bible at some point, they are systematically denied rights and faced with discrimination.

This is exactly what I was saying about "intolerance" being ill-defined. Apparently you believe that we as a society don't tolerate adultery or greed? And yet, there are no laws against either. We don't discriminate against either. We don't prevent people who are involved in either from enjoying the same rights as everyone else. We don't say that two greedy people cannot get married, or adopt a child.

If you want to be intolerant of gay and lesbian people in the same way you are intolerant of those who covet, fine by me. But, when you treat certain classes of people, such as gay and lesbian people, with an intolerance that is entirely different from the intolerance by which you treat adulterers, coveters, or idolaters, then that's when it becomes an issue of acting in a hateful way.
