Even the well educated (Basil the Great, etc.) were "reciting" Orthodox doctrine. We do not base theology on intellectual speculation !

Theology is experience of God iterated. It is what has been received and held and is thus defended. Thus, the illetrate, the unlearned, and the educated are all, through the experience of theosis "theologians".

And, in fact, in my experience, intellectual acuity is more often a road block to 'true theology'. On the other hand, people who are "less intellectual", or academic, can express - a 'true theology'.

I do think that's a matter of developing the readerly "ear". It's just a matter of practice - and this 'attunes the ear', and 'opens the brain' to the ability to not assume one knows what is being conveyed even when the syntax is "correct". I've lived most of my life in the NE. After moving south, I found that it took me some time to figure out how to ask a question.

And there is a great benefit in asking, and in 'puzzling out' !

(I do insist my children translate their Greek exercises into English literally. In this way, they learn also Greek syntax in a more familiar form - their native language. Their natural impulse is not to translate literally, but into an English syntax.)

Yeah... see that? He gives the rainbow (in the cloud) which are like colorful witnesses

It brings up *my* opinion of grammar freaks ... they are disingenuous . Language is for communication . If something can be understood as is , then the message performed it's created job . Context can help solve some ambiguous statements . Questions can help solve the rest . If one can correct a statement , then the message was received - no need for corrections . If one truly doesn't understand a statement , they would have no idea how to correct it . Correcting someone is merely an excuse to side-track a thread . It takes away any credibility of the one doing the correcting as they show that they are more interested having their way with the wording than the message of the post .

English is a blankety-blank ( fill in with your favorite negative term ) language - wierd rules and pronunciations and far too many exceptions to rules . And , it is constantly changing . Everyone who uses it must deal with that . Language was made as a tool for communication . And , a tool is not always used as recommended . The owner can use it for whatever use they desire . The English/British are great at manipulating the language for jokes and riddles . If grammar freaks would have their way , most humor would be banned .

Let us continue as we have been . The grammar freaks can ignore the English-usage commoners . And , the English-usage commoners can ignore the grammar freaks .

Re-reading the OP and subsequent posts I can't identify one grievance that would cause misunderstanding that would be DETRIMENTAL to the message trying to be conveyed. Weather or not they're posts are written good does not effect the message (<---i loved writing that sentence! i can feel the wincing from all the grammar nazi's).

If you can show where their/there/they're or lay/lie or "me and Mel/Mel and I" or good/well would keep you from understanding what someone is trying to communicate, than (<---LOL

) you might have a valid point. Otherwise, it's complaining for complaining sake.

I can understand that, as well as YELLOW and WHITE and any really light colors.

But bold, rich colors like this are very useful.

In small doses, of course. I find that this color is very useful for setting apart passages of scripture or other writings...

...and this color is also most excellent for doing that as well.
