  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's all about His Word - but not just reading it. Him making it come ALIVE, in you.
Look at your Savior meet you where you are:

Psalm 22 (then follow up w/ Psalm 23)

"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest. Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises [fn] of Israel.
In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them. To you they cried and were rescued; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by the people. All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads; "He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!" Yet you are he who took me from the womb; you made me trust you at my mother's breasts. On you was I cast from my birth, and from my mother's womb you have been my God. Be not far from me, for trouble is near, and there is none to help. Many bulls encompass me; strong bulls of Bashan surround me; they open wide their mouths at me, like a ravening and roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast; my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death. For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet -- I can count all my bones--they stare and gloat over me; they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots. But you, O Lord, do not be far off! O you my help, come quickly to my aid! Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog! Save me from the mouth of the lion! You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen! I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you: You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him, and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him, but has heard, when he cried to him.
From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will perform before those who fear him. The afflicted [fn] shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the Lord! May your hearts live forever! All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, even the one who could not keep himself alive. Posterity shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation; they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, that he has done it."

You might want to read the story of the prodigal son Luke 15:11-32, God the father sometime lets us reach bottom so we will turn to Him for help. This maybe more than just a mental issue so; you need to see a Doctor. Chemical imbalance can cause depression.
You sound like a good candidate for an Alpha Class. Alpha started in England so I am sure there are some around you. Almost all denominations and non denominations have these classes. You can go to Alpha.org and find out where one is meeting in your area.

Hey Chris,

You need to make some changes so that you are happy with life. There are two forces that affect our minds: positive and negative. Sometimes two negative people will end up in a fight but a positive mind can bring positive behavior to everyone in the room.

You have an option to pass town and it seems you're being forced to walk the plank on it, so it's a fairly good time to take God seriously and seek to know what sort of life He wants you to have. There are no true Christians who claim to be children of God and grumble about how miserable life is, because once you trust in God then you have the freedom to know that He is behind you.

Here's a verse that is good for new Christians, these are words of Jesus 2,000 years ago and they apply equally today:

John 5
37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, 38 nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. 39 You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
As razeontherock said, if you are in Christ, you have the word dwelling within you. This is the Holy Spirit of God that we invite to live in our heart that we can bring light to the world instead of darkness.

I seriously suggest you begin reading the Bible, this is the very testimony from God that Jesus mentioned. You can just skim-read and look for parts that jump out and as you do this you are training your heart in ways of righteousness. New testament is a great place to start.

Have you seen that this forum has a depression forum as well? Its under "recovery" I think.

Also, the thing to remember with suicidal feelings is that they are temporary, they will pass.

Are you getting any help with your depression? It isnt going to go by itself, you need to get help in dealing with it, this can be done by seeing a doctor who can prescribe you anti-depressants and also, when you are ready to cope with it, some kind of therapy. Dont suffer in silence.

That's pretty down all right. Do you just feel down for no particular reason? Or is there a reason(s) for your depression?

i feel so down and dont wanna do it i really dont, so today i searched some stuff and come across god again
Maybe He came across you! ;)

i always have tried to believe in him but my mind always told me no it cant be real
Actually, from a purely logical point of view, God must be real. If you like, I can explain a couple of really excellent philosophical arguments in favor of God that demonstrate that it is quite logical and reasonable to believe in Him.

but today is the most low ive ever been yet i reached out to god, how can he not be real if at my lowest hes the person i look to for help?.
Very good question. If you're so unsure He exists, why turn to Him when you're unhappy? It seems to me that some part of you recognizes that God does exist and can help you feel better. Its easy to push down this awareness, though, isn't it? Its not until we get really needy, really desperate, that we finally look to God. As someone else has noted, this is why God often lets us hit bottom.

I want to know how i can get closer to god and get rid of this feeling.
Hmmm...God doesn't want simply to be "close" to you. No, what He wants, actually, is what is His by right: your entire life. God will not be just another part of your life; as God He deserves to be at the very center of your existence. Is this what you want? Or are you just looking at God as a kind of spiritual medication? You know, take a little bit of God when you're feeling depressed like you would aspirin for a headache?

A famous Christian writer, C.S. Lewis, described God as a good dentist. Lewis explained that a good dentist will do more than simply medicate for the pain of a sore tooth. If you have a cavity that's causing your toothache, a good dentist will deal with the cavity, even if it causes you more discomfort to do so, in order to properly deal with the the real source of your pain. So, too, with God. When He enters your life He will go to the root of your problems, even if doing so is painful for you, in order to truly heal you. Are you there yet? Are you ready for God to get to the bottom of things in your life? Are you ready for Him to take over the life He has given you?

Selah.

I once wanted to commit suicide, I had been dumped by a girl, and I took it very hard. I felt totally hopeless, I was for most of my life rejected by girls. For me this was my issue, my bother who was married could not understand and tried to correct me, in a rather brash way. I remember trying to drown myself, but God spoke into my mind the following verse "I know the thoughts I think toward you for good and not for evil", this was a verse that had been spoken to me many times at church. So I pulled through. I eventually managed to get myself together, and forgot about the relationship. But God did not stop there. I remember going onto a Christian dating site to try to find a wife. I prayed and asked God who would make a good partner for me and I listened for him to speak. The word "grace" entered my mind. So I typed in grace in the search box. And a profile came up, some one who had contacted me once. I felt drawn toward them, and tried to reply to their communication. Eventually we were able to meet. I went out with her for a few months, and I did not know but she had liked me from the day we met. I asked her eventually if she would like to marry me, and she said yes. So I got married. The relationship has been excellent with no problems at all. We both love each other greatly. So I say no matter how low you feel, God has a good plan for you and if you start to involve him in your decision making eventually you will end up on top. I never get sad now, my wife comments some times on the fact she has never seen me sad.

Hi Chris,

I encourage you to tell Jesus everything that is in your heart.
Everything that seems to be good and bad and ask Him to help you to see things the way He sees them. Jesus promises that those who come to Him He will not cast away.

6 Years ago I was suicidal, denying my homosexual attraction, alcoholism, drug abuse and fearful to open up about any of it.

Jesus spoke to me through the gay man I was in a relationship with and I realized the Scripture "If I make my bed in hell you are there" (Psalms)
was true. I was trying to hid from God, but he was even in my sinful life.

Let Him know what you are crying for. Ask Him to lead you and manifest Himself to you. Ask Him to teach you the truth. And be willing to speak the truth of what is in your heart. Even sins and lies, when confessed makes the light of Jesus manifest.

If you begin showing mercy to others, God will show you mercy (Psalm 18:25) ask Jesus if their is unforgivness to anyone.
