• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thank you so much BakoGuy for your prayers! Yes, I am taking medication, I take klonopin and a beta blocker for anxiety and panic attacks. And I also read self help books for anxiety and panic attacks. Sometimes I can go a long time with no panic attacks, and then boom, I get hit with a cluster of panic attacks. I think it must be because I have been under a lot of stress and anxiety recently. I just wish these attacks would go away! Thanks again for your prayers and support, I really appreciate it!

Well, I'm glad to hear you're doing something about it!
Exercise seems to help me out a lot with stress, may want to give it a try if you aren't already doing so. Especially running.....or you could get one of those stress dolls and start throwing it around or even throw it at people who stress you out...lol! :D

I was on benzos for 2 years for anxiety and it made it all 10x worse. Therepy is a bunch of secular nonsense that does little to nothing. I know the battle with anxiety very, very well. Essentially it is lack of faith. Your afriad of this that blah blah blah and after thinking about these things for so long they become where you instantly react that way because you trained your body to react that way, even if your not conciously thinking about being afraid or being judged. I know how difficult the struggle is.

1)Get OFF THE DRUGS! If you haven't been on them for very long (the benzos) you can quit cold turkey without risking seizures. The withdrawel will be absolute hell but its worth it. Get off them asap. If you stay on them you'll never conquer your anxiety.

2)Find friends that will support you. Seems simple enough but a lot of times when it comes to problems like these people don't like to open up about them or they do and people aren't very sympathetic to your case. Find people that will listen and support but not enable. Friends that will encourage you to go to places that you will feel uncomfortable, but will be there for support. You HAVE to learn to put yourself in situations where you feel anxious and train your body back to normal. This can be done without the aid of people but it will take an enormous amount of will power, and willingness to completley embarrass yourself multiple times.

3) The most necessary thing of all. Nothing will ever change and you'll never have the strength to quit the drugs and go through the process of change if you don't pray to JESUS CHRIST LORD AND SAVIOR and ask him to remove the anxiety and give you the insight to see why your the way you are and the strength to get through it. Like I said anxiety and fear is the lack of faith. The Lord himself says it. Put your eyes towards the Lord first and foremost. Study scripture everyday. Pronounce to the Lord outloud that you are his servant and he WILL give you the strength to overcome this fear. But you must be ready to fight the good fight and not be scared.

fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

Please, PM if you need to talk or need support from someone who has faced anxiety for their entire life. God bless.

I agree with everything you have said and I think it's a great post!

However I don't agree with your statement about quitting benzos cold turkey. I am no way, shape or form a Doctor or a prescriptionist, but from what I've read about getting off benzos is that you should never go 'cold turkey'.
It should be a gradual process of lowering your dose and amount taken, under direct supervision of their Doctor.
Maybe I'm wrong, I don't remember exactly. But you most certainly want to discuss it with your Doctor on how to do it.

I think benzos are good, but only to a very minor extent. I think it's good for a very short time, but never in the long run.
Benzos helped me get out of that 'funk' I was in, and helped settle me down. For the 3-4 weeks of taking them.
