  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Awakening... I suppose.

I know i said that "How do You know when you've been saved" would be my last thread. But what I have to say is big.

I think I might have gotten a message from god.

Last afternoon, I went to confession, got absolution

Last night, I saw a movie. "Big Fish". For those who don't know, It's about the adventours and journeys of a man.... and so forth....

And in the middle of the movie, i got this feeling of.... relief.

I out of the blue got this thought

almost a voice...

that basically let me know that god has many plans for me in life... and that I will live....

and if i live right, i'll go to heaven...

the next morning, i went to church, as i usually do.

the sermon was basically how god has a destiny or a task for all of mankind... and that is to, in some way, spread the word of god...

or at least i think that's what it was.

There are still voices saying i will die.... but less. The ones saying I'm going to live are stronger now... I've basically been praying more... and telling the devil to flee...

And I realized today that I'm not perfect... and that nobody is... but I want to spread the word of god as best I can..

I want to be a priest.

shadesoflight62,

About you wanting to become a priest, did this just happen or have you been thinking about this for awhile? The reason why I ask is because sometimes when someone gets some kind of spiritual experience (as it seems you have), tings can be done in haste. I would definitely research on what it takes to become a priest, what you have to go through and so forth. Weigh everything.

For me, I want to be a priest as well. I have been thinking of doing this for several years. I have researched on what it takes to get to seminary and to be a priest, although I know one cannot fully appreciate it until one is a priest. My father was a minister (he's retired, but still can do the sacraments - Methodist), so I do know the strain it can have on a family. I also know that before I can go to seminary, I will have to complete my bachelor's degree (which I am currently working on and should have in 3 years). I will have to go through a discernment process, I will have to have the approval of my priest and the vestry and then the bishop (which isn't all that easy, from what I've heard). I have even downloaded all previous tests from the past 10 years on the GOE (General Ordination Exam). I have downloaded all the Canons and Constitutions of the church and studied some of it in depth.

Do you have a degree? That may be your first step. I would also talk to your priest to see what you need to do to get to that point of going to seminary. Talk to him of what it takes to be a priest. Now, I don't know if you are RC or not, but in the RCC, there will not be worries of strain on immediate family since you would not be able to marry. But if you are Episcopalian (since you said priest), that is one thing to take into consideration. Do you think you will be able to handle it? Try teaching Sunday School. If you are Episcopalian, there is something you might be able to get involved in which is called, "Disciples of Christ". If you are not involved in the church, get involved. Find what your forte is in the church. Through all of this, you may even find out it isn't being a priest you want to do but something else that is in ministry (just not ordained ministry).

I have been a Sunday School teacher for 5 years. Although I enjoy teaching it, I know this isn't what I am suppose to do.

Yours in Christ,
Jen

You know I saw Big Fish this afternoon and I too felt a sense of awakening. It was like I realized I've been spending the last few years of my life not taking those chances to make changes. Like I"ve been living lukewarm and that I have a lukewarm life to show for it. I realized I have my whole life ahead of me and it's up to me to write the pages of my life so that they say something interesting and inspiring to those who look at my life when I'm older or gone. No joke but after that movie I had a renewed sense of living running through me.

This is a wonderful thing to realise. God has a plan for all of us. It may not be the plan we would choose or even the plan which we initially believe it to be but God's plan is the best for us. Stay alert to His word and open to His will. :prayer:

As I have stated in another post, I live by 3 core values:

1. We are all wondefully and amazingly made by God.
2. God has designed us for His specific plan for our lives.
3. God expects us to discover, develop, and live out our God-given design.

It sounds like you are on your way. Continue in prayer and talk to your priest. You are also in my prayers.

Be blessed! <><

Sorry, my only concern is this. If you live right, it is still filthy rags to God. It is not about you living right that gets you to heaven, it's about having remission of sins through Jesus Christ. If your sins are gone, they are gone.

I want to be a priest
1pet2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
1cor1:2To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by callling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.

Congratulations you are already a priest and a saint!

Of course though to operate in the office of a priest/pastor you will have to "study to show yourself approved unto God" 2 tim 2:15.

It is an awesome time when the Lord lays something on our hearts very clearly. Continue to seek Him through lots and lots of prayer and meditation in His word and He will give you the direction you need.

Just remember, you don't need "college" to be a pastor. You just need to be available as a willing vessel and God will equip you. This might be through an organized bible college, but it doesn't have to be. I've heard of many young people with a passion to serve God discouraged after someone talked them into going to seminary when they didn't feel God was leading them there. Take the council from many people, but compare it all to what God is telling you.

In Christ

Marc

I'd like to pray for you now, if that's ok

Father God,
I thank you so much for the gift that you have given shades. Thank you that you have given us your Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us. Lord, I pray that you would continue to speak to him and give him the direction that you would like him to go. If you are calling him to be a priest, Lord, I pray that you would allow him to shine brightly with your light. Regardless of your plans for him Lord, I pray that you would let him be a powerful witness of your glory and that he would lead many to come to know you through the power of your Holy Spirit. Empty him of himself and fill him with your Spirit that he ma be a useful vessel for you. I pray this in the name of your glorious Son, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Praise God that He is faithful to speak to us when we need Him! I will continue to pray for you!
