Average time in prayer

Might be interesting to find out on average, how long are your prayers?

And how many times per day, without the fact we remain in constant prayer as in being guided by the Holy Spirit.

Anything between 5 minutes and 15 minutes.

They can be short or longish but are usually short, then I take a break then come back to them. I basically talk to God throughout my day.

i didn't vote....as you said...we pray throughout the day...i never time them...they are spontaneous and to the point, and as many times as the holy spirit prompts me....

maybe the point here is to commune with our Abba frequently without thinking too much about it, and just be spontaneous about it, amen?

Sometimes, I average above the 5-10 minutes that I mentioned above, but I don't fast so for me prayer and fasting don't go together.

I'm hypoglycemic, so food fasting for me is out and I have never been called to fast from anything else by God.

When you go to visit a friend, do you take a stop watch with you and begin timing the time you talk together? Yes or No?

Or do you just go with the flow and see what happens?

Sounds like you are turning communicating with God into a legalistic process, something the Pharisee's probably did.

We’re to pray without ceasing (II Th 5:17). For a long time I wondered what that meant and someone on one of these forums (sorry I don’t remember who said it to give them credit) said look for opportunities to pray throughout the day.

You know, getting up, we thank Yahweh b/c this is the day He has made (Psa 118). Listening to the news, we learn of families that need His help. We’re reminded to pray for our leaders, our nation, our government – Congress, Supreme Court and the judicial system, federal, state, county, city, etc. We pray for our military and all those involved in protecting our country. We thank Him for our nation. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Getting our kids ready, we pray with them and bless them as they get dropped off for school. We thank him for our families and friends. We pray for our enemies. Seeing an accident, we pray for the victim & their families and friends, emergency & hospital personnel, law enforcement, etc. Seeing a bag lady, alcoholic, or someone else in need, we pray for them. There’s a forum here with prayer requests, ETC.

Then there is time in our prayer closet (Mat 6:6). This is private time to worship Yahweh - just deliberately focusing on Him such as singing Him a song; thinking about some of His titles, names, and attributes; reading Scriptures such as Psa 145. There's joy in His presence.

I can see what you're saying, and I respect where you're coming from, but I don't believe the OP meant anything by asking about our prayer times.

I have to admit, if I have a long day, where I have to work a full shift at the hospital, pick up shopping on the way home and cook for family when I get through the door, sometimes I do have to plan my time. I have a special relationship with a family member who DOES know that when I arrange my time to pop in to her house (for example on my work lunch break) it's because I care about her and WANT to create time in the day to be with her. She knows it sometimes may be at the end of my shift at the hospital, or during a lunch break - but she knows I care because I make the time and never fail to see her when I say I will. I will never NOT make time for that person in the day, because I love them.

I feel God knows our hearts, and understands our lives. I think He wants us to to turn to Him in pray each and every single day - and I think he understands that many of us pray from the heart in every precious moment we can. I don't think there is anything wrong with setting aside a time, though. For instance, I love spending 10 or 15 minutes during the afternoon to read a passsage of scripture and pray, and I sincerely hope God doesn't get offended when I have to end that to return to work or head into town.

I actually take my prayers with me, to be honest. My vote here indicated my time of quiet focus on God, whereas during the day, all the opportunity I can, I will pray for others or praise God for something He is doing or has done

Prayer should not be planned like a timed BUSINESS MEETING. Prayer comes about randomly when something comes into your heart or you experience something throughout the day. Prayer is about constant talk to God through the day, talking to God as your God and Friend.

A Business Meeting is set aside with time limits, but please don't turn prayer into something like that. Don't be Pharisaical about it and legalistic, prayer as your heart motivates you at the times it calls out to your heart to prayer and say what you want to say to God without timing it.

Well, I feel I set time aside each day to pray, and I also pray throughout the day when the Holy spirit prompts me - it's always from a real place, and I have a healthy prayer life because of it, so I don't feel I'm doing anything wrong.
