If you lived some time in the distant past (thousands of years ago) and saw this, what would you think?

I can imagine that some strong fear was felt perhaps spawning or supporting beliefs in 'higher beings'.

Just food for the thought.. They are quite beautiful.

Has anyone experienced them first hand? I hear they are very dynamic.

In Iceland, just the green variety gently undulating. Beautiful, but it was bitterly cold.

In Inuit folklore, northern lights were the spirits of the dead playing football with a walrus skull over the sky.

We see them quite often around here, especially when the solar cycle it at its peak as it was a couple of years ago.. According to the native peoples of this region (Cree) the northern lghts are the spirits of the dead, or an entitiy collecting the spriits of the dead.

Yes they are quite dramatic. They can change shape across the entire sky in a matter of seconds - then hold a particualr formation for a few mintues
