My daughter is definitely ADHD ... and I'm glad because I find it to be a completely delightful personality. (yes, I believe it is more a personality than a learning disability). Yes, she was a challenge at times...but the end result is an outgoing, extremely happy girl who draws people in because she always has energy and great ideas. I credit a lot of her leadership skills as being a result of this "disability". Her impulsiveness lead her to try things I never would have had the courage to try...and if I helped her walk through her failures so that she could learn from them, she often was very successful at things I'd never thought she could do.
I have always been drawn to these highly energy kids. Our country was settled by ADHD people and that is why we have more cases here ... it is in the genetics. Australia is the other high ADHD nation. It has something to do with the kind of people willing to load up their families and sail over an ocean to start a new life.
