Truly sad. :sigh: This is reminiscent of what happened to ANY person who remotely look Arab here in the states after 9/11. Don't y'all remember? People who do this were hateful in their hearts to begin with, IMO.

One of my former colleagues is 3rd generation Indian (as in the country) - born & raised CATHOLIC in Chicago for crying out loud. About six months after 9/11, he told me he was roughly pulled aside on both the outgoing & returning flight from Milwaukee to Atlanta on business, to be frisked & asked questions. Even when he clearly spoke "American" English & was wearing an rather expensive business suit, also. Didn't matter. They also told him (on the return) his carry-on was "too big" and made him check it, even though it was no bigger than anyone else's?? He was so scared & didn't want to make a stink and look even more "suspicious", so he just quietly complied. People just stared at him. He told me he would never forget that experience. Now, he doesn't have nearly the problems he did back then, thank goodness.

Yes, it's good to be more "aware" in a post-9/11 world. However, when a tragedy happens, people need to stay calm & reasonable. Is it normal to be nervous? Sure. Attacking someone who LOOKS like the racial profile of a terrorist does not help, though.

Weren't the terrorists also attacking people at random? So it would seem those who've attacked Muslims randomly have effectively joined the ranks of the terrorsits. Now we have terrorsits on both sides!

An eye for an eye...

Not that I am justifying their actions by any means, it is still somewhat understandable considering the fact the Muslim community, not just in England, but worldwide has given tacit approval for the use of terrorism by failing to take action against the more radical members of their faith. They do not turn these people in nor publicly condemn such actions, as a whole. They know who these people are....it's no secret.

Muslims I can understand; but why Asians?

In England, the "Asian" community has a large percentage of muslims. Most muslims in England are from the South Asian continent, either India, Pakistan or Bangladesh.

If it went from 1 attack to 4 attacks, people would scream OH NO, THERE'S A 400% INCREASE IN ATTACKS ON MUSLIMS. Beware the doctored statistics...

From the article

He told BBC News the commission was "extremely concerned at the escalation of backlash attacks against Muslims since 7/7".

"Normally we get something in the region of between six and seven every week.

"Now in less than two weeks we have had 170 reported to us alone."

It goes both ways too. A couple months ago I was in Rome and I was craving a curry. If anyone knows Rome, they know that the "Asian" section near the train station has a lot of people of Arab and middle eastern descent. So I made the long walk down via Amedeo towards the Indian restaurant that was recommended to me and had to walk by and through groups of Arabs and such. A few times there was a sudden silence and all eyes were glued to me as I passed. A couple times I even crossed the street to avoid any trouble.

It's a sad thing that there's any stereotyping at all, but it's just the way things are nowadays.

It goes a little bit more than stereotypes. These are physical attacks on people. These are bomb threats to mosques, bricks through people's windows. There is a bit of a difference between people staring at you (which happens to me every day) and people attacking you (which only happened a few times these last few years).

Geez, I was trying to agree with you Rahma. I wasn't trying to compare my one moment of trepidation and worry to the racist prison that you are forced to reside in, I was only trying to make a point that non Muslims can easily find themselves in similar situations. My apologies...

In Canada, when a person says "Asian", he's referring to the Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, etc. (i.e., those people with pale skin and little eyes). To many Canadians, brown people are not Asians.

I don't appreciate your sarcasm when we're dealing with life threatening situations. I'm well aware that this happens to many groups. In fact, my experiences these last few years have given me a much greater empathy for a lot of what minorities have experienced in America for a long time.

For example, this mosque has had arson attacks and bombs delivered to their door. The mosque I attend and the school it's affiliated with was also attacked by arsonists. Definately some similarities to the burning of black churches.
