  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I came across a person who says he prays ever day for word to go out and starat killing the unbelievers. We may yet hear about him in the news, tho i hope he never quite convinces himself that he has heard the "Call" to declare himself a Killer Angel.

I have to believe there were people just like Hespera, Soul Searcher, and Corvus in Moses' time too.

Did I miss something here? Are you really making some kind of godly comparison between the Vietnam war and the Israelites slaughtering children?

(Actually bits of it do match up I suppose, My Lai anyone?)

And how exactly does having to go back to "come after" war objectors in the US mean the objectors LENGTHENED THE WAR?

Supporting the killing of babies, if it was in vietnam or the bible makes the supporter morally culpable. if you cant see that you may wish to reflect a bit more.

Well, i often think that if some of our anti-evolution, anti science, anti-anything that isnt "fundi" people actually knew anything about the people or topics they attack, they'd have nothing to say. As it is, its all attacks on the ghosts of their own imagination. like this attack on the awful draft-dodger Min that he had to chase to Canada. Honestly........

Although I think that the Vietnam War was a mistake, your characterization is unfair. The paradigm at the time was that communism was a monolithic politcal force out to destroy The West. This concept was reinforced by propaganda from the Soviet Union, and the fact that communism was spreading in the third world. We went into Vietnam to stop the spread of communism into South Vietnam and prevent North Vietnam from conquering it. The execution was proplematic, as was the wisdom in getting involved in what was for all intends and purposes a civil war in a country most Americans had no interest in, half-way around the world from us.

According to Jesus we are to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. I do not know about you but I certianly would nto want someone to come into my town and kill everyone who is not a virgin girl and I certianly would not do it to others. If someone calling himself God came to me and told me to do such a thing I would know he was a liar and woudl send him on his way.
