  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you answer was a straight out no, then there would be no need to consult the UCMJ.

But go on, what would you have done 'at My Lai, if your commanding officer told you to slaughter everyone in the village and burn it to the ground'.
I would not have obeyed.

Evolution, in my opinion, is nothing more than a revival of the Old Testament [times] idols.

Each nation had a primary deity, usually with the deity coupled with man in some way; and the scientific community is no exception.

Was this done in spite of any physical sciences, or with respect to the physical sciences?
With respect to the physical sciences.

Athena is the planet Venus.

"As when the son [Jupiter] of devious-devising Kronos [Saturn] casts down a star [Venus], portent to sailors or to widespread armies of peoples gliterring, and thickly the sparks of fire break from it, in such likeness Pallas Athene swept flashing earthward and plunged between the two hosts; and amazement seized the beholders, Trojans, breakers of horses, and strong-greaved Achaians." -- Homeros, poet, Iliad, Book IV: 75-80

"Athena and Aphrodite were both planet Venus deities." -- Charles Ginenthal, historian, 1995

So -- it was the Planet Venus that returned the spear?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Yeah -- I'm going to go with Terrence on this one.

Correct.

It's not the planet Venus you should be asking about but rather the spear.

What sort of celestial atomic weapon is 'spear' a poetic metaphor of?

" ... if one must believe Poseidonius, the ancient dogma about atoms originated with Mochus, a Sidonian, born before the Trojan times. However, let us dismiss things ancient." -- Strabo, geographer, 7

"At least those atoms whence derives their power
To throw forth fire and send out light from under
To shoot the sparks and scatter embers wide."
-- T. Lucretius Carus, philosopher poet, 54 B.C.

Why should I assume it's a celestial atomic weapon?
You shouldn't assume anything.

Only atheists make assumptions.

Rather you should conclude based upon physical evidence and historical evidence as a theist or Christian does.

Why follow such lunacy?
Only someone who denies the existence of atoms would claim J. Robert Oppenheimer was a lunatic.

"I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another." -- J. Robert Oppenheimer, physicist, 1965

Only atheists make assumptions.

So, the assumption that, as you write this, you are a serious individual in full posession of your faculties...

Rather you should conclude based upon physical evidence and historical evidence as a theist or Christian does.

Based on that, do you believe that the Trojan War happened literally as described in The Iliad?

or are you just blowing smoke?

Only someone who denies the existence of atoms would claim J. Robert Oppenheimer was a lunatic.

And this was what to do with Athena? Ah, nothing. So we're back to lunacy.

Correct.

Ever heard of archaeology?

It's a science that basis itself on physical evidence.

E.g. the physical evidence of Troy discovered by Schliemann as well as the palaces of Nestor at Pylos and Ajax at Salamis. All real. Exactly as described by Homer. Yet no one honestly expects people who have faith in scientism to believe in real physical evidence.

And this was what to do with Athena? Ah, nothing. So we're back to lunacy.
It has everything to do with Athena. Obviously Venus's gravity was used to increase the speed of the weapon.

And on that, Aggie, I'm offically calling you out. Poe's Law strikes again.

Well that's the thing about fundies -- They think that being correct about anything automatically makes them correct about everything.

Ag did a good job of that in his parody.

I suppose it's possible that Aggie, in his attempt to parody fundamentalism, didn't actually read the Illiad passage in the OP: The weapon's speed was not increased, it was pulled out of the ground and returned to Achilles' hand without Hector noticing.

Now, his parody is still quite laughable, but he loses points for missing the mark -- so to speak.

Spear is a metaphor for celestial weapon.

"This weapon [astra] can slay any being within the three worlds, including Indra and Rudra." -- Mahabharata, 8th century B.C.

"When I heard that the just and renowned Arjuna after having been to the celestial regions, had there obtained celestial weapons from Indra himself then, O Sanjaya, I had no hope of success. When I heard that afterwards Arjuna had vanquished the Kalakeyas and the Paulomas proud with the boon they had obtained and which had rendered them invulnerable even to the celestials, then, O Sanjaya, I had no hope of success." -- Dhritarashtra, Mahabharata, 8th century B.C.

"... it is not the 'beliefs' and 'religions' which circle around and fight eachother restlessly; what changes is the celestial situation." -- Giorgio de Santillana and Hertha Von Dechend, polymaths, 1969

You have no evidence.

If you're going to argue against yourself, I'm just going to go out for a cup of coffee, mmmkay?

So, Indian epics dictate the meaning of Greek ones? okay...

"... it is not the 'beliefs' and 'religions' which circle around and fight eachother restlessly; what changes is the celestial situation." -- Giorgio de Santillana and Hertha Von Dechend, polymaths, 1969

If they made the same connection you did, I'll take a hit of what they're smoking, duuuuude....

Really Aggie, when a parody is callout out, the tactful thing is to come clean.

I take it from this you've never read Book XVIII of the Iliad.

If you want to understand a text your best bet is too actually read it, not to parody an illiterate atheist.

"Thetis of the silver feet came to the house of Hephaistos,
imperishable, starry, and shining among the immortals,
built in bronze for himself by the god of the dragging footsteps.
She found him sweating as he turned here and there to his billows
busily, since he was working on twenty tripods
which were to stand against the wall of his strong-founded dwelling.
And he had set golden wheels underneath the base of each one
so that of their own motion they could wheel into the immortal
gathering, and return to his house: a wonder to look at."
-- Homeros, poet, Iliad, XVIII:369-377, 8th century B.C.
